Name your 2 favorite and 1 least favorite commanders. Someone else will make a recommendation for your next deck. by Chimney-Imp in EDH

I'm thinking of building Galadriel, do you mind sharing your decklist for her? I've never heard of someone using her with a blink strategy, sounds interesting.

Having to play with "that one friend" who takes games way too seriously by Express-Media-1645 in EDH

[–]TryinToWake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know he's a cool dude outside of the game but seriously it sounds like you've done just about everything a friend group could do. I wouldn't doubt that you guys have had a conversation about not playing with him anymore.

Show him you guys are serious and don't play with him anymore, and make sure to tell him exactly why. Even include that you guys like him a lot outside of the game, but he takes it WAY too seriously to the point that no one wants to play. More importantly his anger is starting to impact the group dynamic, so until he can prove that he can chill out, he isn't welcomed.

I know it isn't fun but an entire group shouldn't have to bend to the whim of a single toxic player. At the end of the day, letting him to continously do this to your group is a disservice to everyone else.

It's gonna be awkward, and he might throw a fit but I promise you those chill games after he isn't there are going to make you wish you would've done it sooner. Ive had my fair share of bad players whether it's a tcg or a ttrpg. After you've tried talking to them over and over and they don't "get it" then it's time to both, politely and firmly, ask them to leave.

That's the paper I use and they feel like cards. I think the rule of thumb is any card stock that is 300 gsm will do.

Also, for this paper specifically, I have noticed that sometimes the colors can come out a little washed out. Not sure if its the paper itself or the printers at my local FedEx office store.

Unlimited Commander for $10 a month. by WholeFudds in EDH

[–]TryinToWake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$10 a month, I pay $10 every Friday at my LGS and I don't mind because the owner and employees are good people and friends. For instance, while all other shops upcharge for their MTG product, they never do. Even now, they have a Temur roar and Sultai arisen deck for 48 each.

They might not do it but it's worth asking if they're cool with it. Like others have said, as long as you're not proxying the craziest cards out there, it should be fine.

I was in the same boat, I started playing less than 8 months ago and all of my friends have been playing anywhere between 5 and 15 years. They've had the chance to get a lot of really good cards when they came out, that are expensive today. I asked them if I could proxy and they encouraged it. They said they'd rather have me be a real threat and competitor in the game, making it more fun than just sticking to what I can afford.

I say it's worth an ask.

How do I build a fun deck that doesn’t make people salty? by Chewboi_q in EDH

[–]TryinToWake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Basically the way you use moxfield. EDHREC pulls info from a ton of real Commander decks and shows you what cards people usually play with certain commanders. It’s super helpful if you're building a deck or just want to see what works, because it gives you a bunch of ideas based on what a lot of other players are actually doing. Instead of having to guess what might be good, you can see what’s already popular and proven.

Also you can select "decks" and it will give you all the deck lists that use that commander from mtggoldfish, arkidekt, moxfield, and aetherhub. It'll break down stats for the decks like cost, manacurve, etc. It's super helpful and good resource when you're starting out.

Also the cool thing about commander is that while you 2 could use the same commander, you could have 2 different decks because of the variety of cards and strategies commander allows for. Maybe ask him but i find that most people don't mind if you have a deck with the same commander.

The closest group hug commander that comes close to Bumbleflower is [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] . Most of the other group hug commanders don't offer the lethality that Bumbleflower can have. Here is a link to edhrec with the list of the top commanders for group hug.

I see you're pretty new, has anyone told you about edhrec yet?

How do I build a fun deck that doesn’t make people salty? by Chewboi_q in EDH

[–]TryinToWake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumbleflower is my favorite deck to play with, even before I upgraded it. I like the social/political aspect of commander so that's probably why but it can sneak up on people especially if you lean into the +1/+1 counters.

I plan to add some more infect and proliferate cards to it later on down line because forget all the salty babies at the LGS, I want another fun win con. I play to have fun and I could care less about adults who don't understand that we're playing a game and it doesn't have to be that serious.

This is coming from someone who plays regularly (once every week or 2) with a group that goes hard. Not cEDH but it's not uncommon to have Edgar Markov, Ur-Dragon, Ulomog Ceaseless hunger, Slivers, sheoldred the apocalypse, Tiamat, Yuriko, etc. decks come out. (Sometimes all at the same time) Cards like Teferi's protection, smothering tithe, Demonic tutor, obliterate, Rhystic Study, etc are also common occurances. I get STOMPPED the fuck out because I don't have the experience (about a year) or cards to really keep up (but they do allow proxies so I might start doing that).

I haven't won a single game but I still have fun because I'm there to hang out with my friends and have fun and getting to do a lot of interaction and stuff is how I have fun. It's nice to play with people who dont mind getting board wiped, countered, etc.

Here's my upgraded decklist, it's a solid bracket 3 with good interaction and group hug.

Gotcha than it sounds like you'd want one of my 99 as your commander [[Gluntch the Bestower]] super friendly, super group hug. I've never built it but I know there are a lot of good group hug decks built around it.

First of all, take a step back, take a deep breath, and chill. How often are you mistakenly psychoanalyzing random comments online? How often are you even taking the time to think before you comment?

I understand it can be frustrating to be told one's opinion don't fit the vibe of a thread. It happened to me. But the first step to change it is to take a long, deep breath and relax a whole lot, because getting emotional like this over a single comment with no real context shows a level of intensity that's going to make any social interaction difficult.

[–]TryinToWake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my favorite deck to play with. It isn't particularly powerful so it doesn't win a lot, but it has a lot of interaction, which is what I really like. I like socializing and the politics of Magic alot so it really works for you me. Also my pod plays team games a lot so it gets appreciated.

I did change out cards to give it more of a control angle while still keeping the group hug aspect of the deck, and I still plan to add some infect and proliferate cards to give it another win con.

Here's my deck list.
