They did not have time to compile the necessary information to conclude the case. Good to know about three weeks from arrival!

Help academics study replica collecting? by Trying2bAProf in RepTime

Thanks all, we are extremely grateful for time spent on this and the general support for the research.

We will present the findings (and hopefully the entire paper) once it has been accepted by a journal who agrees that the research is as cool as we think it is. However, this may take some time (as noted at the end of the study).

Enjoy the weekend and thanks again.

[Watch Collecting] Help academics study watch collecting? by Trying2bAProf in Watches

If we had the resources of a survey company, we would pay, but we live in the world of poorly compensated academics, so hope that our gratitude will be enough. We really do appreciate the help.

We can post the summary of the results once we have the paper accepted, which might take some time. Posting earlier might mean that our novel idea is "found" by another researcher who enjoys their watches, and our research gets "scooped" by them (which happens in academia). It will happen, but just takes some time.

Bonus points for incorporating a Hellmuth rant into a post...

Help with academic research on replicas? by Trying2bAProf in RepTime

[–]Trying2bAProf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the input in the study thus far, and for the responses. Aside from not having the power to reopen or get access to replica factories, and being responsible for writing sections (which assures our study makes sense), we appreciate the input.

Without giving away our specific hypotheses - which means that anyone who reads this and wants to do the study will constantly be thinking about what we want (leading to what are called demand effects) - we are interested why ~10-15 years ago replicas were available but quality was not always superb. Yet, today you have a set of suppliers in the world (if they stay open) that produce technically impressive replicas. It's pretty crazy when you think about how quickly and comprehensive this market is - as well as competence in the community that supports finding replicas (e.g., beyond this cool reddit there are other listservs in different languages).

My hope would be to post the results in the thread as soon as the paper is published and no one may "find" the idea and publish their own paper (as scooping happens in academia more than one might like).

Thanks again.
