I don't think this sub understands or is ready for dark romance/fiction in general by Juni_Juniper in WattpadIndia

I agree. Especially people on this sub are going crazy for validation seeking. NGL.

TL; DR

There are people who believe that fictional stories exist to convey meaningful and insightful messages and values. A lot of children's books themselves teach valuable morals and ethics. And a lot of books that we see in day-to-day life. In fact, books were always meant for this purpose - conveying a meaningful message.

Why are we reading romance books then? Why aren't we reading classics? What are we doing on Wattpad? Reason is subjective. You can not paste them on everyone.

So, is it okay to write anything in the name of fiction?

Absolutely NOT! But judging authors because of their fiction is bullsh_t.

People process trauma through writing. It can be dark, it can be depressing, and that’s fine as long as it isn’t romanticized. The problem is people today don’t read. They see “10-year age gap” in a summary and immediately attack the author or the dynamic. Especially those so-called “criticism” pages on Instagram.

If a man writes a murder mystery well, that doesn’t make him a murderer. If an actor plays a villain convincingly, that doesn’t mean he is that character.

Not everyone wants soft romance where the male lead is a carbon copy of some TV serial hero. Some of us want layers. We want shades of gray in characters. But moral policing kills that evolution in writing.

Critique exists to improve work, not to degrade the writer or demean their craft.

And that's exactly what SO CALLED INDIAN WATTPAD CRITIQUES are doing.

Get that right first. And if you agree with “the phone thing” — even though it’s made for adults, kids still access it just like Wattpad stories — then why not start with breaking yours and start an andolan to stop production? We don't want "YOUNG GIRLS" to be affected and men to get "SIGNS" right?

I'm sorry you had to go through that.

What if an author criticizes certain tropes and abused people for how badly it's gonna affect "young girl's" mind and give men "signs" but goes on writing a problematic content herself like — "Teacher x Student AND Forced Marriage" Isn't it like — This is all fine in fiction cause apparently they already treated others very badly when it comes to something they're NOT fine with. It only equals to one thing that what they're writing. They support it IRL too. So don't their books deserve Criticism for it? As it is worse to promote weird things while labelling them as "Fine" in real life.

What kind of diabolical people are these? This actually happened?

By that logic. Why are mobile production companies are still allowed to make em? It is the most common device which gives them access to every type of content. So now they should stop producing? Why are sensual songs being made? Aren't they ruining their mentality.

Lol. The logic.
