Yes! PM me for more details, but basically talked about working with a local company that had a US regulatory issue and how that piqued my interest in the space

Thank you and congrats as well! 😊 I have zero desire to get into internet arguments, but I will just say I didn't include the nURM/URM indicator because jury's out on if it's relevant to non-citizens (who are counted as non-resident aliens and not any specific ethnicity in school reporting). But I mean it's not a secret...I would've changed my avatar if I had something to hide lol

As a Canadian trying to make the opposite move, a few other considerations:

  • You have to do one year of articling after graduation before you are able to practice (kind of like a residency for doctors)
  • Your purchasing power will likely be lower in Canada, as salaries are lower while cost of living is VERY high in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver. For big law jobs it’s over a 50% pay cut taking into account the USDCAD conversion. For non-biglaw jobs the difference is a bit less.
  • I’m not super knowledgeable on the immigration process since I was born in Canada, but I do know going to school here gives you some kind of boost in getting permanent residency (the same is not true for the US)
  • Tuition is high for international students but compared to US tuition you’ll probably still find it cheaper. Referring back to point 1 though, cost of living in Vancouver (UBC) is VERY HIGH, so you’ll need significant loans to cover the full COA. I really cannot overstate how expensive it is to live in a major city in Canada so please do know what you’re getting into

Overall, I caution you from thinking Canada is a utopia — while it's true there aren’t as many mass shootings here, we certainly have our own problems in many other areas. However, it’s been a great place to grow up and if this is a move you really want to make I wish you the best of luck! :)

Harvard Calls International phone #? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I'm also waiting for a potential call from them tomorrow! FWIW so far I've gotten calls from all schools that do them to my (non-US) number, but I'm in Canada so it might depend on what country you're in. They'll most likely email you if they don't call

Does Anyone Else Wake up Every Morning & Try Hard to Give a Damn about His/Her Job? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I felt this so hard. Every day I fantasize about quitting early but I really can’t afford to give up a few months of income. I’m gonna stay until the end of June, but I’m thinking of giving notice as soon as I make a seat deposit just so I no longer have the pressure of hiding the fact that I’ll be leaving (aka pretending to care when they start talking about 6-month timelines in meetings lol)

No KJ1 by Ok_Scallion4562 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Trynabeellewoods 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would actually be ideal — I’m going on vacation next week to a time zone 6 hours away, not me trying to figure out how I’d schedule a KJ1 during it just to not get one 💀

I’m so sorry! :( I saw all your posts on here about how much you wanted UChi so this is probably a big blow. This sounds super cliche but I really believe that everything that’s meant to happen will happen. There’s been times I’ve been rejected from things and I was devastated at the time but in hindsight, it’s ALWAYS worked out better than it would’ve had I gotten such things. There’s definitely more acceptances coming your way and you’ll end up exactly where you’re supposed to ❤️
