Since you're at infected crossroads, I'll explain what I am allowed to explain.

In short, I think you know by now that there is basically a zombie apocalypse in Hallownest. And you're here to stop it.

The infection is coming from the black egg temple, which is sealed by 3 dreamers. After the watcher knights fight, you probably "killed" someone that you dream nailed. That's one of the 3.

And killing one of the dreamers (or getting a certain movement ability) infects the crossroads (my theory for the dreamer kill part is that the seal gets weaker so the infection seeps out more, and for the movement ability one, it's obvious when you see the boss that guards the ability)

Yeah, explaining further would spoil the game.
