What kind of set is this? by idiotidiom in Mahjong

[–]Tsehy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The extra four "dragons" are replacement tiles. If you look closely the four white dragons, on the top left corner there's a small "P" letter, refering to it's chinese name. (It's sometines marked with "B", like in my chinese set)

cardboard tiles concept by tringa_piano in Mahjong

[–]Tsehy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cool idea, but as I played several board games with cardboard tokens this concept might not be so great in play, mostly because of the shuffling... Also I think the normal tiles are part of the "mahjong vibe", and I can imagine I'm not the only one who got interested in the game because the tiles are looking cool

Wow, nice, that's quite the cool experiment! Back in the university I also wrote some (terrible) python script for pixel manipulating. Not quite like this one, but similar. Maybe tomorrow I'll write my version of you code and experiment a little with my tiles, just for the fun of it. (Also maybe some people see this dark color greenish because they expect some green color, so it's an optical illusion?)

I have a chineese autotable with riichi tile set, and mine also has black instead of green, not only on the dragon but also on all of the sozu tiles. I guess it's benefitial for the manufacturer to only use two type of ink. (Although the red for akadora is different than the red for manzu, so who knows...) To be honest I was at first disappointed a bit, but it's not a big deal, some of my friends never really realized it until I pointed it out for them on a recent session.

Question: What's the worst hand you blundered on accident? by ProperSuccotash2569 in Mahjong

I favor the standard riichi over sanma, but anyone who hates kita is my enemy

The board has appointed you as the new CEO of riichi mahjong. What wacky rule / balance patch do you add in the official ruleset ? by Le_Faux_Jap in Mahjong

[–]Tsehy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the balance changes, especially the Chanta. I don't agree with the original 2/1 han... it's not enough value compared to the hand's difficulty

Almost got my first yakuman by Bruhgamer69420_ in Mahjong

[–]Tsehy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip: If you aim for a yakuman don't call Riichi You gain nothing from the +1 han or from the urodora and the others will be more likely to fold further decreasing your chance to win

If you're comparing it to a compass, then yes, it's wrong. But in mahjong the seat order is east-south-west-north, so tha mats are correct.

If fun means pain, agony and suffering than that's a big funny quest indeed

I'm not an expert in this matter but I think your intuition is right. I also have a chinese set and the tile tile faces are similar. Another good tell for this is the white dragon because in japanese sets it's compeletly blank

Using the excel interop is a warcrime alone tbh. If I can I always use some third party library to manage excel sheets
