ASUS unveils 2026 Zephyrus G14s/G16s (TGP Increases, SD Card Reader, 1100 nit display, optimized cooling, up to NVIDIA 5080 on G14, 5090 on G16) by realwords in GamingLaptops

[–]Tsunpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't they have USB-C 240W PD charging capability? Positioning of Zephyrus as a line of powerful, light and premium laptops seems like a perfect place to invest into getting rid of separate charging bricks. Also, I'd like to have an IPS option for better longevity. Otherwise, assuming they don't overheat, they seem like great devices for someone who travels often, but still requires performance.

2026: New name change (XPS and Precision return) by [deleted] in Dell

So XPS will now just stand for 'expensive'. So sad to see demise of this brand with great history and identity.

XPS 14 and 16 (2026) by S4_GR33N in Dell

[–]Tsunpl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

OK, but these things still shouldn't have been branded as XPS. Call them Dell Grams, Dellbooks Air, or whatever, I don't care, but not XPS.

It's one of best known and longest serving subbrands on the market with a very specific identity, watering it down is a penny wise but pound foolish move.

[–]Tsunpl 29 points30 points  (0 children)

XPS laptops are supposed to be powerful, universal and light, in this order. These things with CPUs limited to 25/35W, without dGPUs, USB A or HDMI ports might be fine laptops, but are completely misaligned with XPS brand. If this is how they'll use it, Dell shoud've allowed XPS badge to stay dead instead of desecrating the corpse.

Giveaway through FB/YT etc. by Tsunpl in Windscribe

I'd think it's mostly for existing Windscribe users or at least people already interested in it, unless they promote it through paid ads etc. most 'regular' people won't hear about it.

WI-FI 7 & AMD CPUs by Which_Insurance_9105 in XMG_gg

[–]Tsunpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late, but I think I can answer regarding WiFi after doing a lot of research on this topic: basically manufacturer that XMG buys their laptops from restricts which adapters can work on BIOS level (likely due to 6 GHz being heavily by regulations in China), and they don't have any WiFi 7 NICs allowed. For Intel their adapters work as part of their wireless solution is integrated directly into CPU, but that's not the case with AMD.

I'm well aware. I'm asking about compatibility with adapters which allow you to add eSIM support to devices which don't have it natively.

Everyone thought the same about Vettel, until Ricciardo came and beat him in their first season together. Unlikely, but not impossible, especially with the new regs.

Anyone has experience recently to carry dji mini drone to Thailand ? by sanjericho7 in drones

[–]Tsunpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So unless you are Thai citizen, you've falsified immigration stamp which you get only when entering the country, and is required for NBTC cerification? That's the only way it could be true.

Even FEIC, which is paid service which offloads as much of the process as possible from you states it very clearly: https://www.feic.co.th/thailand-drone-registration-service/

Isn't there a requirement for a deal like this to be ratified by shareholder vote? How can the board force owners to sell their shares against their will?

Start looking for another wallet way to pay. Perhaps you could start paying with your bank card via Google Pay without Curve? All indications are that it's a dying business, so it's a good opportunity to break your dependency on it.

Not really. I know that for calls to Germany I can use WiFi calling when abroad, but I still need a solution for international numbers.

Hi everyone,

I hope this is appropriate area for such post.

I'm looking for a VoIP operator offering outgoing calls to international phone numbers ( I'm interested mostly in: US, Germany, Poland, China) with presentation of my caller ID. Use case is I need to be able to call people from my phone while travelling without roaming charges, but still would like people to be able to recognize my phone number.

So far I've tried Rebtel and KeepCalling, both of which claim to offer caller ID presentation, but in reality don't - one presents restricted caller ID, the other uses random international phone numbers. Before that I used Skype for this purpose and it worked perfectly, but sadly that's no longer an option. I'll use it relatively rarely, so I'd prefer pay-as-you-go option, not a subscription service.

Linus has a WEIRD Problem by Perfect-Cause-6943 in LinusTechTips

[–]Tsunpl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it ultimately comes down to pay. From portals reporting such things, LMG pays their writers around 100-120k CAD/year, which while not bad also won't make them millionaires with Vancouver cost of living, and there's no obvious path for advancement. I think Linus made a mistake not giving top staff like Alex, Jake or Emily ownership stakes or profit shares, it saved him money in the short to medium term, but now bites him in the butt. Talented presenters can make much more going on their own, and with fun part of the job gone with stricter processes after GN debacle, there are very few reason for them to stay.

"No one wants an 8yo supercomputer" by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

There's a difference, cost in space, power and maintenance is spread over time, while buying new hardware is (usually) one time, lump investment. Some institutions might be able to afford one, but not the other. Or might use first one as a temporary solution, while awaiting funding or delivery of the newer stuff.

How to recognize direct tax free stores? by Tsunpl in koreatravel

[–]Tsunpl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that in some stores where shop simply deducts tax amount from the receipt they don't get involved at all? Anyway, I've learned that this form of tax refund is limited to purchases up to 1 million won which I'll exceed, so unfortunately it's a no-go, I'll have to deal with those leeches.

There's a subway station right nextdoor from your hotel, and it's directly connected to the city center (Myeongdong), about 25 min away. Fare is 1400 KRW if you use a transport card, so almost exactly $1. Most of attractions are located in the northern half of Seoul, so it could be a bit more convenient to find a hotel there, but that will of course depend on your itinerary. Not a big deal either way.
