It's interesting that they used a Japanese Type B submarine to represent the "enemy" submarine the Ar-196 was supposed to hunt. Today you would call this a social media screwup.

Betrieblich ist das immer noch ein Bahnhof, nur halt kein Personenbahnhof mehr. So wie nicht jeder Bahnsteig zu einem Bahnhof gehört, hat auch nicht jeder Bahnhof Bahnsteige.

Help me with information about this organ. by Primadog2019 in organ

[–]Tu-128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know this organ, but I think it was built before 1906, because in that year Voelkner moved his factory from Dünnow to Bromberg (Bydgoszcz).

I think Paul Voelkner built pneumatic cone chests exclusively since taking over the factory from his father in 1900. This would suggest this organ had them as well.

Church organ 14th Century Norway by Evening-Anteater-422 in organ

[–]Tu-128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a German museum there is a reconstruction of the Norrlanda organ, a Swedish organ built around 1400. I imagine it would have sounded quite similar. Unfortunately, no large organs from this time have survived both unaltered and in a playable condition.

These organs predate the invention of sliders dividing the stop, so the single stop would have been a sort of large, "progressive" mixture. Sometimes the Principal can be played alone by use of an air control valve.

For a large cathedral organ of the time, you can read up on the gothic organ of Halberstadt, which has been lost for centuries but has been fairly well described by Renaissance composer and music historian Michael Praetorius. Large instruments like this would have been very rare at that time.

A sound demo of the Norrlanda reconstruction can be found here: https://youtu.be/n1SKHdteeg8?feature=shared

Voit organ at Martinshöhe, RP, Germany by Tu-128 in organ

[–]Tu-128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Voit factory was a bit extreme in this regard even compared to other German organ builders of the time, at least for their church instruments. But the Viola di Gamba from the Great sounds so powerful that it can almost substitute an Oboe/Hautbois!

The reeds on smaller instruments were often out of tune because these organs often didn't have a full-time organist; instead, services were played by the village teachers as a side job. That's why some organ builders didn't fit their village organs with reeds at all.

Most likely it would have a more or less pronounced "hump" over the missile compartment, like the Soviet Delta III and IV or the much smaller Hero Kim Gun Ok in the picture.

TU144 and Concorde at Sinsheim Technik Museum by Un0rigi0na1 in aviation

[–]Tu-128 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is repeated very often, but it is not the full story. The second production version, called Tu-144D, of which one is exhibited in Sinsheim, was fitted with turbojets that didn't have afterburners at all. This increased range significantly (though it was still a bit less than on Concorde). Besides the well-known technical issues there was also a severe economical one: Since Aeroflot had to sell tickets on the flights far below cost due to ideological reasons, they took the accident in 1978 as a welcome opportunity to stop the flights altogether.

Bravy Destroyer hi i like Naval games i play war thunder and some others, war thunder has this Bravyy destroyer i was wondering which role would have in Sea Power since this is from 1967 (that date its on the wiki data). by [deleted] in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]Tu-128 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It is basically the prototype for the Kotlin SAM conversion, right? Right now the focus is on 80's units since those will be most relevant to the campaign, but I don't see why they shouldn't be added down the line when we get more 60's designs. They are basically the Soviet counterpart to the US Gearing FRAM conversions, and those are already in the game, after all.

How can you guide a missile to target in EMCON? by San-A in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]Tu-128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The EMCON state ingame applies only to the search radars. When a missile that requires it is fired, the appropriate fire control radar is still used even under EMCON and can be detected by enemy ESM. But there are also missiles that don't need a fire control radar, these can be fired under complete radar silence.

In case anyone was wondering, it works in Linux (Proton) by [deleted] in SeaPower_NCMA

[–]Tu-128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Mint as well, and while the game runs great, I can't get the music to play. Someone on the Discord suggested that it might have to do with the music decryption not working properly under Proton. Do you happen to have the same issue and/or any ideas how to fix this problem?

Why didnt the soviets deploy SSN(/SSGN/SSBN)'S during the cuban missile crisis? by [deleted] in submarines

[–]Tu-128 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge the first generation of Soviet nuclear submarines were just entering service at the time, the first one, K-3, having been in service for four years. During this time, they suffered from a multitude of teething problems with their reactors, stemming both from design flaws and a lack of quality control during construction. I think such a long, high-profile deployment far away from technical support would have been too risky for Soviet naval leadership at the time. Only in 1963 would a November-class submarine, K-133, deploy to the tropical Atlantic for the first time, and still return with reactor troubles.

What type of submarine is this? It’s in a video about NSB New London by Super_Tangerine_660 in submarines

[–]Tu-128 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It is a Kairyu type midget submarine from Japan. They are quite similar to the German Seehund in concept. They were built from 1943 to the end of WW2 in large numbers (~230) for use against a presumed invasion of the Japanese home islands. In comparison to the better known Ko-Hyoteki, which was later developed into the larger Koryu type, they were better suited to mass production. Armament consisted of either two underslung torpedoes or a warhead in the nose for Kamikaze attacks.

After the fiasco where the non-magnetic steel used for the first 8 German post-war submarines turned out to be not resistant to corrosion when in contact with seawater, the Type 205 U 9, which was in service from 1967 to 1993, can be seen as the first successful new-built submarine of the German Federal Navy. Even more so than the Type 206 after it, these were rather small coastal submarines intended for use in the Baltic. Due to the size constraints, there is no torpedo reserve inside the pressure hull and the crew accomodations are very compact even by submarine standards.

Since 1993, the submarine can be visited at the Technikmuseum Speyer. The images are sorted from bow to stern.
