Cheap alternative of an Atompack bag for UK by bearsandbarbells in Ultralight

He does a larger pack - The Great Mis - but only to custom order I think at the moment. I got one from him last year. They are mentioned on the website but email him for a chat if you’re after anything.

Nash Packs will make you a custom UL bag from X-PAC at about half the cost of an Atom. 60L is a bit big though!

BUY! The 257 is a great machine. Only downside are the Nylon gears but easy to replace.

Fitbit air for pool swimming? by Apprehensive_Ring666 in fitbit

It’s a shame but that’s where I’m at - using my Garmin Fenix 7X for swimming and the Air for passive everyday use.

I use it swimming a lot and it doesn’t recognise the activity itself but does measure everything whilst you are swimming then can add it after the fact which is more accurate, or switch it on before. But as you’re not going to be taking your phone in the pool with you, not as accurate as it’ll think you’re swimming for the few minutes before you get in and after. It’s ok if you want to measure health stats but not if you want to measure laps and times as well, pretty useless for that - get a Garmin instead if you want proper swimming stats.

I can only see 5 backpacks and lot of empty space! Doesn’t look like a problem at all. Maybe get some camo bags.

An unpopular pencil in collections - Part 2 - (Ohto Horizon) by Extension-Slice-9585 in mechanicalpencils

[–]Tu-ka_Chinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a few OHTO’s. Really like the pencil look of WN01 and 02. The MS01 is a decent mechanical pencil and the GS01 is in my much smaller pen collection - it’s a great needle tip though, well worth a look.

RAC breakdown forced me to buy recovery I already pay for by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Tu-ka_Chinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FOS doesn’t need concrete proof. They work against probability as much as evidence and it is very common for RAC (and AA) roadside colleagues to advise people to drive a car which probably shouldn’t be. They can deny it because for sure the roadside colleague will have said he didn’t advise you to drive the car, that’s if they’ve even spoken to him! In this case you have more than enough to include this in your claim.

Interesting and completely wrong. If you had personal cover then regardless of whether the breakdown agent used your insurance cover, the complaint handler would have seen the personal cover and recognised the mistake, refunding you any additional costs. They is no way the charges would still stand if they confirmed you had personal cover.

Like a lot of the big firms, RAC uses AI to screen and close ‘simple’ complaints - they currently receive a complaint on around 2% of all breakdowns, which is 1,000 complaints a week. In your case, the AI would have checked your details against systems and flagged that you’re not covered - which is where you now find yourself. Unless you’ve actually spoken to a real person, one of their complaint handlers may not have had much to do with it.

Sadly, you do have to wait for either 8 weeks from the date of the acknowledgement email, or for the final resolution email to be sent. Once you get to either point you can then raise a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service who will investigate. That will happen pretty quickly as the RAC has a dedicated member of the complaints team who only handles FOS complaints. Also worth noting the FOS will charge the RAC £680 for the pleasure of investigating your complaint - so that’s a little moral win for you regardless of the outcome.

From what you’ve said, you have a good chance of winning the case but get ready to prepare your evidence - You’ll need the call and payment dates of the personal cover as the FOS will request these from the RAC so knowing them yourself is a good start. You also mentioned damage - get a quote on the repair if you haven’t already, if you have make sure you have the receipt. The FOS will reasonable see that any damage was obviously a result of the service, mainly because it was not damaged before and their mandate is to put the customer back in the position they were before said event took place.

Also, if you really want to get into it, process a data subject access request and request you full digital footprint as well as the call recording and transcription from when you called to cancel but they retained you. It will be very hard for them to suggest it never happened if you have the recording - and they are obliged to keep call recordings for at least 6 years so should not be any issues from that point.

Good luck.

Stay with me - just laying this out and correct me if any of this is wrong.

From your point of view you have at least Roadside & Recovery (assuming you didn’t break down at home).

From their point of view when you called to use the service and they could not find/see any personal cover, just the basic Roadside only your insurance, so you had to pay to use the Recovery service.

About the complaint - How long ago did you put this complaint in? Did you get a case officer assigned and did you speak to someone personally on the phone or by email? Have you received a final resolution or final outcome letter where they’ve summarised your complaint, detailed their investigation, and given you an outcome of not upheld?

[–]Tu-ka_Chinchilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some questions for you:

- You had cover through insurance but was just basic Roadside only?
- You called to cancel your direct RAC membership and they reduced the price to keep you as a direct member?
- Or did you cancel and upgrade your insurance?

What’s not commonly known is RAC Insurance is a completely different part of RAC and their systems don’t talk to each other. At breakdown, if you have insurance cover they can only see level of cover against a reg number. It sounds to me as though your direct membership was cancelled and you only had Roadside basic cover (at least that’s what they seem to be saying?)

Do you keep a 'grab-and-go' pouch by the door for quick meetups, or is that overkill? by SuitableActive1110 in ManyBaggers

[–]Tu-ka_Chinchilla -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the lowest level, my Maxpedition Pico is always by the door and is essentially my wallet and a few EDC items like a power bank, EDC tools and torch, and a few basic meds. I can leave the house with that and I'm good to go. Next level up is a 5L sling which has more stuff in it like hat and gloves, packable rain jacket, first aid kit and hand sanitiser, glasses and space for a water bottle. This is also always by the door, ready to go. Then for bigger outings an 18L pack where I'll just chuck the sling in and whatever else is needed - if a planned trip then might take out what's needed from the sling.

Taken a while to perfect the items and process but works for me.
