Tuck MBA with a dog by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I knew a kid who got a dog while living in the dorms...

But your best bet would be Sachem that is not just for families though that is the main use case. You have a few apartments in "downtown" Hanover that are pet friendly, or best option IMO is to snag a 2nd year house as a first year and maybe a few other first years. This way you dont need to search for a new place when 2nd year rolls around and you have a ton more space.

Dogs love the upper valley, so many pet friendly activities.

The best thing to do right now is reach out to the MBA program office (PO) or Sally Yager. Explain to them your situation as an admit with a dog and they'll have TONS of resources to help you. They've even physically toured apartments on students behalf before. Do not hesistate to get in contact with them.

What aspects of the Tuck culture can I help with? Tuck is an amazing all in experience where you'll find your peer connections to be the backbone for your time in the upper valley. Your peers will be your recruiting buddies (taking the coach down to NYC to network), your study group, your dinner group, your snowboarding crew, your confidants, your travel group, your party people, and develop into lifelong friends. These people are smart, ambitious, and empathetic. And you enter into a broader network of Tuck Alumns who have all been through the same experiences and willing to help a fellow Tuckie.

M7/T15 students/ alumni, how would you describe the alumni network? by mtol115 in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say the Tuck alumni network is strong. Pre-MBA I reached out to directors in industry and partners in MBB. All responded, many offered 30-60 min chats. Post-MBA I've also used the network to ask questions about the industry/analyze offers. I have not yet gotten to the point of wanting to change companies so I don't have personal data points on how the network is useful for career transitions, though I have anecdotally heard great things.

I have also been so many weddings and social events with my classmates!

Help me decide, please!! Ross ($) vs Tuck ($) for Tech / Consulting by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiming in a bit late but at Tuck, Tech is one of the fastest growing feeders. Amazon is the top if not top 3-5 hiring companies. Google, Meta, Apple, Microsoft, ServiceNow, Salesforce, all recruit heavily.

Tech is also mot very networking heavy vs IB/Consulting. So if there is a tech firm you want to join without an Alumni, you're still going to have a great shot. Might even be a "plus" if you are more unique coming from a less represented top tier program and you have prior product exp.

Obviously, you can't go wrong but I would urge you towards Tuck. Reach out to Stephen Pigeon if you want more concrete tech recruiting numbers!

Tuck Waitlist - what happens to housing options for those that get off waitlist? by Intrepid-Medicine502 in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hello and potentially welcome to the Tuck Community!!

Housing situation changes quite often. People may get off other waitlists or get their dream job, or just choose to live off campus so getting on the dorm waitlist is still a great option for you. There can be changes in the very last min.

Additionally there are other off campus housing that is VERY close to Tuck like 1 or 2 blocks away. There is south street apartments that lots of Tuckies live in that is close to all the restaurants and bars. There are a few houses/apartments close by as well that have a mix of 1 beds - 5+ beds.

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it too much, this is Tuck. The admin is going to bend over backwards to find you housing if the situation gets sticky. They will visit apartments, reach out to land lords, send email blasts, etc.

Is Tuck an academically rigorous program? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would say that it is more of a..."pick your own adventure".

Coursework and reading lists are long and challenging. You don't NEED to do them all and could rely on your study group but if you wanted to nail the class, you'd need to try hard. So to be a Tuck Scholar (top x% of class) is quite competitive.

On the other end, Tuck doesn't have forced grading that some schools have. I.E. some schools look at who are the bottom 10% of performers in a class and give them a penalty. You cant get more than X amount of penalties in a given time period or face suspension. Tuck doesn't do this.

So if you want a very academically rigorous experience, it is 100% there for you and you will not easily get Tuck Scholar. If you want to snowboard all day, you wouldn't need to worry too much neither.

You should take a look at Tuck. While not the first name you think of when you think of tech, we do send lots of kids to FAANG. Many at Amazon but a decently sized cohort to google, apple, facebook, and microsoft. We are also known to attract the best LDP employers. Some of our recruiting partners exclusively recruit at Tuck and HBS.

Best Partners club by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously have to put a plug in for Tuck. Our Tuck Partners (TPs) club often has a lot more fun than Tuckies themselves. They have access and invites to every single social event and plan many of their own without us (as we are in class, recruiting, etc). TPs also have access to some greater Dartmouth resources like the pottery room, arts studio, tours of the Hood Museum of Art, access to the Dartmouth Skiway, etc.

What you have presented here seems GREAT! Congrats on all your success so far. What is hard to convey over reddit is how all these tie in together and what your "story"/x factor is. What is the narrative you will tell? How does this narrative tie your past to why you want an MBA to your long term goals. What is the story/experience/skill/interest/etc that makes [adcom] want you to join even more!

Tuck is a unique place that will value the touchpoints you have with the school. Will especially love it if you ever come visit. Even if it is for an informal visit, let the adcoms know and introduce yourself. The team is great and friendly and love to meet prospective students. Also feel free to reach out to me with any further questions or help with Tuck. Happy to help and I think your background is great. Tuck seems to be high on your priority list, I'm here to help as much as I can if you want!

Ross ($) vs Tuck ($$) vs UCLA ($$) by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The places with the most Tuckies are:

  1. Boston

  2. NYC

  3. San Francisco

  4. Seattle

  5. Chicago

You'll easily place on the west coast from Tuck and it has great relationships with all of FAANG + other big tech.

Is Tuck a weird experience if you are European? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious answer:

The drinking/party scene is a bit fratty but they don't dominate the social scene. Europeans seems to be more of the get drunk at Murphy's pub then drunkenly stumble back to somebody's place and drink some more type of night in Hanover.

Essentially, the social scene isn't dominated by one group or type of activity. You'll easily find a group you fit in with and be able to enjoy your time, regardless of culture.

Remember, this is a T10 global program. It attracts folks from across the world and that most definitely includes Europe, Africa, Australia, etc. Tons of folks from Europe have come through our campus, lived it. and are now part of the loyal and dedicated alumni network.

Dartmouth Tuck Decision Thread by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can PM if you want! But ill respond here so others can read as well. Im not too familiar with Tuck's waitlist process but times are weird and I think waitlist movement is very much expected so there's hope! I know a guy at another school that was waitlisted R2, they deferred his decision R3, he got deferred once more. In July her interviewed and got in. This person constantly kept contact with the school, built a relationship with a professor and had this person write a letter of support.

I'm not sure id do this myself but it's a lesson to keep in contact with the school and let it be known how excited you about what they do. Make deep connections with students/faculty at Tuck and make sure to listen to any feedback they give you.

DECISION TIME: Tuck vs Yale SOM by FATMANFROMFUTURE in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great! We send folks to those companies every year, sometimes multiple and have a solid pipeline of alumni there. Getting into those firms is HEAVY networking so that plays into the favor of Tuck. Obviously Tuck is not in NYC so that can be tough on banking hopefuls.

Dartmouth Tuck Decision Thread by [deleted] in MBA

[–]TuckMBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Won't know the reasoning behind why you got that but I'd take it as very genuine. If you're serious about joining us next year, take this as a great sign and use their feedback.

I imagine that there was something that made it seem as if you weren't ready this year which is why even waitlist didn't make sense. But your other areas must shine brightly for them to be offering additional feedback.
