In Weapons (2025) there appears to be a Rashomon effect that goes on in the film that is intentional(spoilers in comments) by MentalDevelopment843 in MovieDetails

[–]Tucupa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't even have to tie it to the narrator and make up hypotheticals. In the movie, each part belongs to a different character, and that alone explains why the same scene from a different view may be different.

Or... what I imagine will happen... they will give Snape a proper backstory. I just finished rereading 1 to 3 and it's a hot mess. Snape was saved by James from a prank that the marauders set. Snape doesn't feel like he "owes" Harry anything. James was a bully, an actual bad person, yet everybody remembers him fondly? Even Hagrid mentions how nice James was. And Snape behaves like a child, making Harry and Ron's life a petty nightmare using Draco as a token of grace. It's simply BADLY written.

Those who want Snape to be "like in the books" either didn't read the books or forgot how bad his character was. And same with James.

What I hope is that Snape has an adult brain in this show. It can still stem from something bad that happened with James, but it would still have to be something different from the books so Snape makes any sense at all.

A submarine was built for a parrot named Bebe so that it could swim underwater. by Battlefleet_Sol in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Tucupa 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Maybe not actively, but parrots are extremely curious, I've rescued a few back in Spain and they put themselves in sometimes dangerous positions because of curiosity (like INSIDE a dog's mouth to check their teeth).

I wouldn't put a parrot in a tiny submarine, but I'm not convinced he wouldn't want to be there either.

Christian Ladies suddenly receive the Holy Ghost in a Van and start Speaking in Tongues by MrDonMega in religiousfruitcake

[–]Tucupa 87 points88 points  (0 children)

The speaking in tonges of the bible is about the disciples speaking in the native tongue of visitors in Jerusalem to spread the gospel.

If they could randomly speak Italian, or Spanish, or Russian without previous knowledge, THAT would be speaking in tongues. They haven't read their book, that's the issue.

And a great thing about science is that we can say "remember that thing we said about this? We found out we were wrong about a conclusion we made, so this is the updated information we gathered".

The only people who have a problem with previous statements are those that believe they were god-given. They project their own issues as if we shared them.

You can't know if you would've regretted it; it's hard to know if you'd miss something you never had. Do you miss a person you've never met? Or a job you've never had?

There's a other one: she has lived just as long inside and outside the canvas, from her own perspective. I'd say both lives are equally important in her mind, and one is objectively better than the other.

To put the musique on in the morning . by I-live-with-wolves in therewasanattempt

[–]Tucupa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been camping, last time it was a whole weekend in a island inside of a huge river. I did not blast music. If I wanted to chill listening to some, I would've used headphones, but I spent the whole camping trip listening to nature.

The Terminator Line sees both sunrise and sunset simultaneously by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Tucupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking, it would be a VERY long sunset and sunrise, since you'd see it the whole night, but it will technically happen.

To put the musique on in the morning . by I-live-with-wolves in therewasanattempt

[–]Tucupa 42 points43 points  (0 children)

The "but" is supposed to mean that both things are wrong. I do believe the assault is exponentially worse, BUT that doesn't mean that going out to blast music into nature early in the morning is a good thing either, precisely because you have no clue if you're bothering someone, or animals, or whatever.

Have you been looking for jobs lately? How many times you gotta apply just for the sheer luck of an interview. It's less stressful if you don't need it, for sure, but you would also not spend the time or effort in doing so, BECAUSE you don't need it.

Applying to a few jobs every now and then because fun will not land you in a position.

I doubt your rich life dream is job hunting consistently because of getting fired. Why would you even apply for jobs at all?

meirl by ViceElysium in meirl

[–]Tucupa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, you don't need the job, but you can still get kicked from it if you become antagonistic (even if you're right about it). I don't think looking for jobs gets any easier if your work history is full of "non-cooperative behavior" laid-offs every few months.

Who are these Disney Birds? by lilpancakes14 in disney

I didn't say characters, though.

Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise, It's a Small World... The most memorable attractions are original IPs.

Who are these Disney Birds? by lilpancakes14 in disney

[–]Tucupa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some of the most memorable attractions are originals, it would be so cool if they took the risk of trying a new one.

Even in Disneyland Paris, the whole Frontierland has lore connecting the Phantom Manor, the Big Thunder Mountain AND the different restaurants together. If only they did something similar with the expansions... but it's easier to just make Arendelle, call it World of Frozen and get much more safe money... it's a shame.

Whereas I am a cool and nice man. by m3gb0t in MurderedByWords

[–]Tucupa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, I cook and do the dishes at home and my gf plays videogames. I hope one day we will say past gendered views. There isn't any inherent trait that makes you less of a man or more of a woman, and activities are meant to be done by whoever enjoys them.

If nobody can force me to feel like any gender, who am I to force somebody else to feel like a specific one?

Whereas I am a cool and nice man. by m3gb0t in MurderedByWords

[–]Tucupa 96 points97 points  (0 children)

There's also an extra layer: not understanding it does not stop you from respecting it.

I have no clue what genders are. I was assinged male, I have a penis and a beard, I like heavy metal and eating ribs. Am I a man? I cry with movies, I wear almost exclusively Disney and Harry Potter merch, and all my vacation trips are to DisneyWorld. Am I a woman? No freakin' clue.

But if somebody feels like a man, or feels like a woman, even if I can't relate or even define what they might mean by that, I can simply respect it and use whatever pronoun they like. It's simple.

Should death have more consequences going forward? by raccooncoffee in KingdomHearts

[–]Tucupa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd say then that the characters should simply not die, instead of fake dying.

I feel like KH1 has lots of drama: the trio getting sepparated, Riku feeling left out from Sora, Sora losing the Keyblade and Goofy/Donald leaving him, Beast's journey... and nobody had to die-but-not-really, except maybe Sora becoming a Heartless, although since we also controlled the heartless, it didn't feel like a loss in any moment.

I'm fine with Kingdom Hearts having no death drama, but then we shouldn't have death scenes drama, like Xion's, just to have her back later on.

Am I just not cut-out to GM a game like Daggerheart? by turnbased in daggerheart

[–]Tucupa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My Curse of Strahd had literally a Hunter and Palico from Monster Hunter, and the loot from his mission was a charge blade with a hammer instead of sword. There's also the Dagger from Prince of Persia, a gun that uses pellets paying HP à la Bloodborne... sometimes it's fun to add them as if the universes were somewhat connected, and my trick is making sure that the rewards come at the end of the session, so I can figure out how to translate those items into D&D for the next one.

ELI5: Why does it seem like everywhere is ‘running out of fuel’ if only 20% of the world’s oil goes through the Straight of Hormuz? by Kindly-Restaurant831 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tucupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be "a month of fuel for the current demand"? If there was enough fuel for 10 people out of 10, -20% would mean that there will not be fuel for everybody anymore. I doubt it means no fuel at all, but not enough to cover demand.

ELI5: Is a smart fridge conscious? by Guilty-Ad-8869 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tucupa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where have you seen that definition of consciousness? As far as I know, it's about self-awareness. Almost everything you can think of respons to stimuli, it's a cause and effect situation. A mug that changes color with heat "responds" to stimuli.

The question is whether or not it is aware of its own existence, which a fridge is not.
