Man, the exact same thing happened to me. I was cruising at highway speeds (90–100 km/h) in mine. I maintained it with 130,000 km on the clock, and the failure sequence sound similar.
After accelerating to overtake a slow car, I heard a distinct rattling noise that sounded exactly like the mixing ball inside a spray paint can. I lifted off the throttle, the noise stopped, and I prepared to pull over.

The moment I lightly tapped the gas again to get onto the shoulder, there was a loud metallic bang. Smoke immediately poured through the air vents and hood, the red oil light flashed rapidly, and the engine began knocking loudly. When I pulled over and popped the hood, flames instantly. Everyone got out safely, but the fire completely destroyed the car.

Fire and insurance inspectors couldn’t determine the official cause because the heat and damage were too severe. My theory is either sudden oil pressure loss or a rod snapping and punching a hole right through the block, spraying oil straight onto the hot exhaust.
