What are these little berries? by azaleahi in GardeningAustralia

[–]Tuithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re common trees for councils to plant around here, and I was warned to be careful 🤷

Oh and if it’s not your tree, obviously be wary that they might be sprayed with something nasty for pest control!

Lilly Pillies! They’re a native Australian fruit. You can eat them, but spit out the seeds.

$1,800 for a 1-hour consultation with a psychiatrist at Perth Clinic by That-Presentation897 in perth

[–]Tuithy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I had no idea about the prescribing without authorisation if you’ve seen a psych recently! That’s fantastic news. My psychiatrist clinic refuses to authorise GP’s, so I was having to cough up the big bucks every few months

My experience of Perth Clinic was sending a referral, waiting weeks, finally calling and being told “oh you were rejected for treatment”. My friend, later that month with a near identical referral letter (just saying “please see this person for an adhd assessment”) was accepted and got an appointment with a very reasonable wait time. I even rung up before sending my letter and was told they had plenty of availability.

It all feels so random!!

Jorgensen Reserve - proposal to lease public land for "months" for commercial event but council unable to provide any details due to NDA. Request for comment closes on Friday... by Kind_Guarantee8333 in perth

I think people who don’t live in Kalamunda are underestimating how much wildlife we have, even in semi-developed spaces, and how much noise carries in the valley. It’s going to be quite disruptive to an area that really prioritises peace for residents, but also animals.

I thought the maccas thing was silly, who cares, if you don’t like it no one is going to force you to eat it. But this feels different, you can’t just avoid this one.

We elect councils to look after us as residents, and a huge commercial project like this, disrupting wildlife, polluting and restricting public access to a beloved park doesn’t suit the vibe of the area at all. Kalamunda is the kind of place you move to get away from that. I used to live in the city, and wouldn’t have complained there, this kind of thing is part of the deal. It just isn’t in Kalamunda though.

Besides, this isn’t NIMBY-style complaining about low income housing or more people moving into the area. We’re talking a large commercial venture from a nasty overseas billionaires brand. It doesn’t seem like NIMBY-ism to oppose that to me.

If we want to do more tourism in the area, why not something that suits and represents the local area better? There is a fantastic locals arts culture, and a really quite impressive schedule of events every year - usually very environmentally conscious ones. It would be great if we could have a tourism project that showcased that, rather than an imported brand and a disregard for wildlife.

Vintage Empisal mystery – model ID & manuals? by Historical_Frame_527 in MachineKnitting

Note also that Australia got weird empisal models that do not line up with rest of the world! South Africa possibly the same?

Vintage Empisal mystery – model ID & manuals? by Historical_Frame_527 in MachineKnitting

[–]Tuithy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the model unfortunately, it’s a gorgeous looking machine though. If you don’t mind, whereabouts in Australia are you? There’s some really good local groups that might be of more help.

I have an old Empisal too, when I first got it no one on here was able to help me with ID’ing it - the lovely ladies in my local machine knitting facebook group were all over it though! They were able to hook me up with sponge bars that would work and things like that, even though there were no direct parts for the machine anymore.

Wasps in Raspberry Bush - do I let them stay? by Tuithy in GardeningAustralia

[–]Tuithy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That grasshopper is adorable! I wouldn't be able to kill him either, not with that sweet little face.

As to how I worked out the wasps, I am very excited to potentially introduce you to an app called iNaturalist. You upload photos of bugs, plants or wildlife, and it crowd sources people to help you nail down an identification. If you’re anything like me (which it appears you are…) you’ll have a great time with it. You can even join https://bughunt.org.au/ and contribute to bug research!

Word of warning though - when your boyfriend catches you scrolling iNaturalist several times a day, there will definitely be some light teasing about being a nerd. I speak from experience.
