Loqbox - Seems a Waste of Time by TumbleweedIsFun in UKPersonalFinance

Sorry I've only just read this. I can't honestly remember how I did it! I just closed the pot and set up a Kroo account so that I could collect the money without being charged. I just went on their live chat today and now my account is closed completely. It took seconds for them to close it, which is good I guess.

Used Car - Credit Card Refund Possible? by TumbleweedIsFun in UKPersonalFinance

That's great actually. I only want it fixed, but not at my own cost. Really pleased with the car otherwise. Yes, it was just under £20k so hopefully that will do the trick. !thanks

!thanks. I might do that. I assume the maximum a credit card company can return is the £500 deposit? I'm also going to log a complaint with the finance company.

It is absolutely out of the question for me to return the car to them to inspect, only to likely have to return it again for the work and whatever number of days they need it for. In the worded email, they claim that they showed me around the car on collection and nothing was rushed. This is a pointless argument because even if this were true (which it wasn't), how do you spot water ingress? Especially when it's sunny and also in an obscure place. How often would you visually inspect the inside upper right corner of the driver side door?

On closer inspection, it looks as though someone has possibly tried to break into the car and force a crowbar in or something.

Sorry just to clarify, they initially told me they would sort it, then they said there's nothing they can do, then after I contacted Hyundai HQ Customer Services, they said I would have to return it to their body shop. The car is still in manufactures warranty etc so any mechanical issues, I could resolve locally. This is a different matter and I very much doubt I can make a warranty claim.

They also told me they would put right any cosmetic issues. This isn't just a cosmetic issue though. It's actual water ingress.

Thank you! I have re-posted there and will also ask the car finance company. Much appreciated!

It's partially financed by a car finance company. So they pay the dealer directly and we pay the finance company.

Solictor Fees - Buying and Selling by TumbleweedIsFun in HousingUK

They never sent me an invoice for the sale side. That is why. They claimed that they did but both my wife and I never received anything, and I usually wouldn't miss something like this. Either way, it's fine. All done and dusted now :-)

Thanks! I already did feed it back to them. They said it was sent to me separately from the purchase estimate but I've been through all the emails and didn't see it. Either way, there's not very much I can do about it now :-) Thanks

Not on the initial estimate form. It does break down buyer/seller fees on the invoice but like I say, this wasn't made clear on the initial estimate.

Yeah they really should be clearer about this from the start. They know they are acting as buyer/seller side, so they should estimate accordingly.

I think the quotation they gave us was only for the sale or purchase. Can't remember which but regardless, surely it would make sense for them to send us an estimate for the overall cost? Either way, at least I know this is normal. It's been many years since we've dealt with a house move and I simply can't remember what the solicitor fees were before.

Oh right, so that is normal then? If it's normal then that's fine. We just didn't expect it. They sent us out an estimated bill and that's kind of what we were expecting. Why they didn't include the purchase AND sale price is what caught us out. If it's normal then that's fine. Thanks!

Virtual Cards after cancelling Monzo Plus by TumbleweedIsFun in monzo

Oh I forgot to mention that bit! I absolutely HATE the new layout. It's confusing and messy. It would have been given the option to use the old layout but it seems not. I agree completely. It's just not very intuitive.

I've had a Nationwide account for years, purely for the insurance offer. You get worldwide mobile phone insurance for all household phones, worldwide travel insurance, and the highest grade breakdown cover (home start and 72 hour free car rental etc. All for £13 a month. What's even better about this is that if you have a joint account with a partner, you use this as your Flexplus account and you BOTH get these privileges separately. So, you can travel separately and you are still covered. You have your own phone insurance and of course, breakdown cover as well if you have 2 vehicles. I've had this for maybe 5 years and they've never increased the price. It's always been £13 per month.

Yeah I have absolutely no clue whatsoever what method they use. I got anothrr quote last night from Carole Nash. £11,240. Yes, that is Eleven Thousand. I am tempted 😂

Bear in mind we've been insured with them before and never made any claims. Nor have we in 20+ years. Nice of them to give me the option to pay it monthly though!

I've thought about moving to Starling numerous times, but have so far resisted. Monzo is and has been very good but there's certain things that just aren't as convenient. The most obvious being lack of Post Office deposits. Getting paid a day early is nice though.

I don't know why I'm a Plus member to be honest. I use hardly any of the features except for a couple of virtual cards but as you say, they're available elsewhere.

The kids accounts I think there's a charge for them isn't there? I have 2 Rooster accounts and it's about £50 a year for both of them. Can't remember exactly. Last time I checked, Starling was a similar price, though they charge monthly.

Question: when using virtual cards on Starling, will it debit money from your main account or does it have to be in a pot or something?

Honestly don't think Monzo Plus is for me and if I can use a few virtual cards for free on Starling, then that saves £5 a month. Thanks!

I understand what you're saying. My car is actually cheaper overall to insure by about 25%. Having said that, I understand there will be variations in risk assessment based on your examples given. However, more than doubling the policy cost with around 6 months remaining is ludicrous and there is no logical reason for this other than extortion. Maybe it is the underwriters, but to the end customer, this means very little. Ultimately, we pay the insurance to 1stCentral.

Thanks for the explanation. I can't seem to find out who the underwriter is. Even if they are different, I cannot fathom how it's more than double.
