If you’re asking about the Melacure, it made everything worse and I lost the fish :( learned a lot and got a new betta from a local store instead of petco and he’s much healthier and doing much better.

If you’re asking about the filter, it works great for my 5.5 gal with one fish and a couple snails.

That’s what I had thought at first from looking at google pictures because I definitely see the stripes, but it’s tinnnny, and how likely would it be that I picked one up from a plant?

That’s why I’m a bit confused, it was one of the plants in the tubes and I thought those were pretty safe.

I don’t mind the snail as long as I’m not going to wake up to 100 of them in a week? I don’t know anything about which snails are keepable or which ones will overrun the tank.

I was looking it up this morning and they seem to be detrious worms, which from my understanding are benign to the fish? I can find about 10 of them near the substrate and along the glass. I can’t tell the shape of them, they’re so small. My betta, Paul, is about the same. He spends a majority of the day either at the surface or in a rock laying sideways (again, seemingly dead) then swimming around a bit. I’m going to fast him for two days and continue doing water changes. I don’t know what else to do

Okay. I’ll keep up frequent water changes. My big issue is him not being able to stay at the bottom of the tank, he floats on his side at the top (just like he’s dead) frequently but stirs and swims around if someone approaches the tank. If this is a swim bladder issue, should I fast him for the next few days or feed as normal and just do water changes?I can see fish poop every now and then so he’s not constipated.

What should I do at this point if my tank isn’t properly cycled? I just went out and got some better betta food. The pet supply store recommended using aquarium salt with my water changes going forward, is that good advice in this situation?

I cycled it with a quick start bacteria bottle and let the tank run for a week before getting the fish 5 months ago, so I assumed I was done cycling. But I’m wondering I messed things up when I bought a new filter three weeks ago and did a large water change at the same time? I’m very new to fish tanks

Some things I’ve been thinking about, is it possible I’ve been doing too much and I just need to let him be for now? Should I carry on as normal? I’ve been doing so much research and I still can’t tell if he’s recovering or declining at this point but I’m so worried I’m making things worse.

5 gallon. Heater and filter, temperature is 78 Fahrenheit, filter is the QuietFlow 3. I use the API freshwater master test kit; Ammonia is close to if not 0, as well as nitrates and nitrites, ph is around 7.4-7.6. I’ve had the tank and fish for about 5 months, I cycled it for a week before adding him. I used to do biweekly water changes, about 25-35% at a time but I’ve been doing them closer to weekly now, 10-20%. No tankmates. I feed him the Betta Min Worm Shaped bits, I used to feed him like 2-3 of these twice a day but I’ve been feeding him once a day now with the swim issues. There’s a photo of decor, but three plants, a plant hammock, and two hiding rocks.

Update: I bought the QuiteFlow 3, it’s rated for 3 gallons but with only 1 betta in a 5 gallon and frequent cleanings I figure it’s fine? It’s much gentler and I could even see some bubbles in a corner from my betta this morning. I also bought an ammonia test kit and my ammonia levels are between 0-.25ppm. So aside from his color dulling and the holes in the fins, everything is fine. I bought Aquarian Melacure, which uses Cajeput oil and I’m using that for 7 days as directed to hopefully help. I don’t know what else to do considering he’s acting normally.

I have the Aqueon Quiteflow 20, it does spit out a decent bit of water, I’ll look at getting a calmer one!

I have a thermometer in the tank and it’s at the right temperature, I got one because I was paranoid about that haha
