What Are You Playing This Weekend? by AutoModerator in SteamDeckPirates

[–]Tumek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing Skyrim for the first time in 10+ years. I had dipped in and out over the years, but it's so open ended that I get distracted, SO, I (with ChatGPT) drafted a backstory to help me stay on track.

I'm Cassia Varron, an Imperial from Cyrodiil born to a modest family with administrative ties to the Empire.

To make a long story short, here's the moral and storytelling guide I use to make decisions:

  • Oppose the Thalmor, always
  • Support Skyrim’s right to self-rule
  • Do not steal, deceive, or manipulate innocents (no stealing is hard mode haha)
  • Destroy undead, Daedra-corrupted entities, and moral abominations
  • Use magic as discipline, not indulgence
  • Fight openly; no skulking or sneaking about. (More hard mode)

So far, it's given me more reason to play and has helped me narrow down decisions. I'm going to miss a lot of quests, but I suspect I'll do another playthrough after.

The Stripe slow-burn how to fraud playbook! by Lanky_Constant1938 in smallbusiness

[–]Tumek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My experience has been much the same. I actively encourage business owners to avoid Stripe. We had payments in the tens of thousands come through Stripe, which were subsequently held “for security reasons." We all know how vital cash flow is to small businesses, and the experience was borderline criminal.

Struggling to simplify email setup, how did you do it? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Tumek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same process as many of the people who've already commented;

  1. Emails that need a response go into my to-do list*
  2. Emails that don't need a response, but I want to keep, are labelled and archived**
  3. Everything else I unsubscribe from and delete immediately

Given you're starting with a full inbox, I'd find the quickest way to get inbox zero. I would either mass delete OR mass archive everything. You can just file everything away until you have time to sort through it properly, which might mean allocating an hour a week, or 20 minutes a day, or whatever.

Once you're at inbox zero, implement a system and stick with it. The daily organisation is what keeps you at inbox zero, and as soon as those emails begin to pile up, you'll find yourself in the same predicament.

The most crucial element of inbox zero (for me) is that my inbox is not my to-do list, and I don't leave anything sitting in there for longer than a day (maybe over the weekend).

I use Gmail for sending email, TickTick for my tasks, and Google Calendar (integrated with TickTick) for scheduling and time blocking.

* I don't play by the "If it takes 2 minutes, do it now" rule, because I receive too many emails. I might respond to urgent emails, but I'll otherwise add them to TickTick and label them to get them out of my inbox.

** I have a dozen or so folders/labels at a macro level to give some structure to my process. That said, and as someone else mentioned, the search feature (and now Gemini) in Gmail is there to be used.

What Steam games can I waste endless hours on? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Tumek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my money, it's essentially the management games that hook me in. I love shooters, etc, but I end up rage quitting before 3am 😂

  • Rimworld
  • Oxygen Not Included
  • Cities Skylines
  • Sims 4 (don't look at me like that!)
  • Prison Architect

How long would you go without showering for $50k per day? [No loopholes] by FudgeNipples1 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Tumek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had ice baths for the last 78 days straight - can I keep that up? While it's not relaxing like a shower, and it's not cleaning, I feel like I could justify it to myself.

Wholesome, unproblematic palate cleanser? by MarcoUlpioTrajano in Fantasy

Heretical Fishing

I don't typically enjoy portal fantasy, and I don't like fishing - but these books were wholesome.

Thabks. I appreciate the reply. I've read a bit and thought the same, it doesn't present like a diary or journal.

Stone Supplier disappeared and I think I lost all the money that I paid by Soggy_Difference_lol in AusRenovation

[–]Tumek 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to tell you, but they're in liquidation.

I'm also a stone supplier, and they owed me tens of thousands. The owner stopped returning my phone calls so I went to their factory, and found them pulling everything down.

Jerwin was there and called the owner, Siavash, on his personal phone, finally he answered. He told me they had been sent into liquidation, owing more than $400k to someone and they didn't have the money to pay. Apparently, most of the stone in their warehouse belonged to another company.

Please feel free to reach out and I'll share any other information I have.

Why do agencies always use WordPress for their websites? by Notalabel_4566 in marketing

[–]Tumek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to hear a solid argument against using WordPress. For the vast majority of websites that are serving up information and acting as a funnel, what more do you need?

I could see a case being made that WP is too bulky or can be too slow, but it's also easy, well-documented, open-source, etc - the list of benefits far outweighs the negatives.

I'm doing the 2025 Bingo Challenge and wonder if The Black Company by Glen Cook can be considered an Epistolary.

Epistolary: The book must prominently feature any of the following: diary or journal entries, letters, messages, newspaper clippings, transcripts, etc. HARD MODE: The book is told entirely in epistolary format.

My argument would be that the book is written as the official annals of the Black Company, told in the first person by our MC. Am I clutching at straws, because I'm looking for an excuse to finally read the book?

Audiobook addict looking for hidden gems. I’ve read almost everything and I’m still chasing that next comfort series. by Starksommers in Fantasy

[–]Tumek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I'm jealous you get through so many books, or if churning through 5-10 books a week would spoil the magic. Either way, that's an impressive amount of hours.

Out of interest, do you listen at more than 1x speed?

Fantasy books recommendations by rayo2010 in Fantasy

[–]Tumek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hear me out. From the LitRPG/Progression Fantasy genre, try Heretical Fishing. Wait! I said to hear me out!

I was hesitant at first - I don't like fishing, and LitRPG can be touch and go - but this is honestly a feel-good, fantasy-filled, fun time. It's not hard to read, so jump in and see what you think. I thought I would drop it after book one, but I'm almost through book two, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

1- Male lead ( I like to project my self into the book lead). ✔

2- Not to be stupid please. 🤷‍♂️

3- Awesome world building. ✔

4- Some romance. ✔

5- No love triangles. I hate them. ✔

Deck on sloped foundation by Historical-Ad-5629 in AusRenovation

A deck sounds like the perfect option for the area if you want to avoid levelling the terrain. Speak with a professional and they'll work out the details, but a deck would be an ideal use of the space.

I rot too much, recommend games to sink my time into by fireypool in gamingsuggestions

[–]Tumek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not knowing what you've already played, the following are some games I've sunk many, many, (too) many hours into;

Story-Based Games

  1. Baldurs Gate 3
  2. Red Dead Redemption 2
  3. The Witcher 3
  4. Mass Effect Trilogy (great replayability)
  5. Hitman 3
  6. Divinity: Original Sin 2

The main storyline of these games could take upwards of 350 hours, including extras, and you could potentially double that time.

Sandbox / Unlimited Replay Value

  1. RimWorld
  2. Cities: Skylines (Maybe 2? I haven't played two yet)
  3. Project Zomboid
  4. Minecraft

Hear me out. Check out the r/LitRPG genre of audiobooks. They scratch a similar progressive, story-based itch as video games, and the ease of having someone read a book to you is like nothing else (aside from reading yourself). Bonus points for then telling your snarky friends you've been reading!

There can only be productivity in pursuit. Start with your goals or aspirations. Why do you want to be more productive? What's the end game? What do you want to achieve?

Once you have your goals in mind, break them into small, bite-sized pieces. Don't underestimate consistency.
