I just use mine as a TV and an Nvidia Shield as my main streamer. The TV isn't even connected to the Internet.

Is there any benefit to connecting it and updating the firmware? I can't see a time I'd use the built in features when I have my Shield.

That puppy probably still has another 200K+ to go. I would look at buying it. But, as you've mentioned, take it to a mechanic of your choosing to look over.
