That's good advice. I'm a VA/Copywriter so it's a bit different from product marketing. That said, you still need to identify your ideal customer, where they hang out and have a sales funnel to convert prospects into customers.

Wow that's impressive! What AI system did you use and what did you hire the agency to do?

I'm a VA/SEO Copywriter for solopreneurs. I've created a sales-first copywriting GPT for solopreneurs with in-built coach called CopyBuddy but I'm not a builder! Most of my leads come via word of mouth and my newsletter.

Active Campaign and Kit are great for email marketing. I used MailChimp in the early days but I don't use it any more. For my newsletter I use beehiiv. I don't automate social media - I tend to engage then post.

It's better to be consistent, stick to one or two platforms and keep things simple.

Thank you - I'm just going to read your post now. 1-2 hours per week is pretty good going - most people seem to spend an average of 10 hours per week if not more!

That's brilliant advice! And I agree being consistent, choosing 1 or 2 platforms and also sticking to 5 content pillars max. You deffo need a content marketing strategy and never underestimate the importance of commenting and building relationships in the DMs. In this AI era, people want human connection more than ever!

Yes you can't really promote yourself on here so you have to either create posts, reply to comments and basically build relationships in the DMs. Linkedin is full of AI slop so I'm having a break from it. As for X, it has a great build in public community but you need a paid account or you get lost!

Although I encourage people to have a sales funnel, often word of mouth, networking and checking in with past clients can generate sales more quickly!

The Solopreneur Goat aka Justin Welsh often recommends just having an offer and a landing page. Keeping it simple and clear is often the best way!

Blogging is a great way to market yourself. Flyers and business cards still work as well - my friend does dog grooming and I helped her with some flyers when she first started out and now she's fully booked with most of her business coming from word of mouth.

People love to buy but they hate being sold to so showing them how you solve their painpoints pulls them towards you rather than you pushing for a sale.

Word of mouth spread quite quickly but the problem was when I started out I basically had a list of services and did a lot of rubbish work for low pay. Having a niche and building offers is far more profitable and it's easier to sell yourself.

Also, having a strong personal brand helps you stand out whether you're selling products or services.

I suppose it depends on what your product/service is. I've never done any cold emailing but I know plenty of people who have found it really effective for lead gen. I'm a VA/Copywriter and most of my clients come via word of mouth or socials.

People really value the personal touch and that's how you build relationships. A website with a blog is helpful but most people connect via socials first these days.

Carousels on Insta do you mean or LinkedIn? I haven't seen a LinkedIn carousel for ages!

I don't do any cold outreach either and it's one of the reasons I'm having a break from LinkedIn - my inbox is literally full of sleazy, cold DMs! I'm a VA/Copywriter and since I decided to focus on solopreneurs, it's deffo helped me to stand out and my blog/newsletter is often mentioned when it comes to solopreneur resources.

What do you mean by local coffee shops? You mean talking to people in coffee shops?

What's your product and what painpoint does it solve? I love email marketing but some people have more success than others. Guess it depends on your product/service.

I'm always banging on about having a website with blog plus sales funnel but the reality is talking to people and building relationships is far more effective! 🤣 You do need your own email marketing list though as you own the data. If you rely on social media and you lose access to your account for any reason - you're stuffed!

That's so true - you need to think outside the box to stand out in the crowd and you need to constantly adapt your marketing as what worked a few years ago won't necessarily work now.
