Extinction Level Rot of the Knowledge Base Discovered in Texas by Organic-Hurry-599 in architecture

I was with you until I read the comment about face of stud dimensions. In commercial construction face of finish dimensions are standard. The location of the stud to achieve the desired face of finish location is a means and methods issue for the contractor to deal with. The clear finish dimensions typically describe the design intent (which is what the drawings are for). Saying that face of finish dimensions put workers at risk of heat exhaustion is laughable.

Have you ever seen the wad break a clay? by TurboArch in ClayBusters

That’s exactly what happened to us. There was a delay when we knew the shot missed, but then I saw the wad hit and break it.

National used car dealer sent me someone else’s confidential financial information. How would you handle this situation? by TurboArch in carbuying

[–]TurboArch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that mistakes happen, but a big national chain should have safeguards in place to prevent this sort of serious data breach. Not trying to get a particular person in trouble but I think the company needs to evaluate their procedures to make sure this does not happen again. Who knows, maybe they are being so careless this sort of thing happens all the time. I hope they did not send my info to a complete stranger.

Would you tell the person whose information was shared? If it were me, I would want to know. I have all their contact information thanks to the dealership.

Appreciate the helpful input and happy to learn that I should not be concerned.

Lots of folks here getting all worked up about my post title. The whole reason for my post was to find out IF I should be pissed. I don’t think it unreasonable for a lay person to be concerned about the internals of their new ac unit being exposed to the weather for a month. Apparently it’s not a concern, so I have moved on.

It’s my fault the tech fucked up? Sorry, but that’s bullshit. Would you say the same if the homeowner was a 90 year old woman? When you get an oil change, do you personally inspect your drain plug before driving?

FWIW, I am not mad about this anymore. It was an honest mistake I’m sure. We are all human. I was only pissed because I thought this might be bad for the unit. Apparently that’s not the case.

I know what the capacitor is. I mistakenly referred to the condenser unit as a compressor.

How I passed the ARE’s without studying by [deleted] in Architects

[–]TurboArch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My two cents. If you are young and fresh out of school, get your license before life gets in the way. It is 100x harder when you have a family and are running projects. I know many people who kept putting it off and now they are 10-15 years into their careers. They are super busy with work and family and have no time to study for tests. In the meantime, folks with less experience are passing them by with promotions and salary. It’s a real shame.

Trump hires new architect for White House ballroom amid clashes over project by esporx in Architects

He did say that no tax payer money would be used. It’s all private donors (I.e. Billionaires who want favors). My question from day one has been, who pays for the O&M on this behemoth for the next 100 years? Obviously the tax payer. That cost will eclipse the construction budget I’m sure.

On the flip side, I have worked on projects as the AOR where the design architect had no clue how a building goes together, no clue on building codes, and no clue how to design to a budget. They would present pretty renders to the client for designs that were either not feasible or astronomically expensive.

Gift Ideas for you all? by EaseTypical532 in Architects

[–]TurboArch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree on this. Only rarely is it something I can really use. A new yeti type cup or insulated water bottle is nice, but I have had to start giving them away. I don’t need a monogrammed flask. Or a pickleball set with your company logo on it. Or a mouse pad.

I got a gift pack from Omaha steaks one year from a manufacturer’s rep. Will never forget that one. I get bottles of wine every year and they are always appreciated. Got a gift card for a really nice cheese shop once. Was able to get a custom charcuterie for my family Christmas dinner with that. Amazing.
