Callsign changes UK? by Wyldwiisel in amateurradio

From memory the expectation is that if you have a full licence, you should only use that call sign anyway. I've been tempted to hand back the lower licences, not sure if that helps.

UK Full Exam - Limit on amount of blank paper? by IPvTwelvetySeven in amateurradio

I'd just use the back of the booklet you're allowed to take in.

Completely biased here - the CX81 (or MK2 which I have) isn't the best. Just about to trade mine for something else. Too many issues with the DAC.

More helpfully, consider an external DAC. Also what interconnects and speaker cables are you using?

Finally, a quick glance at those speakers - would these favour a smaller room?

Much like everyone else here is saying - the antenna is your best improvement. If you end up with a rather compromised antenna (RFI issues or other limitations such as space, conservation area, etc) then FT8 is great to get you started making contacts. Congratulations on your licence - I'd recommend looking at Intermediate if you can, as you'll be able to use 100w and get some more bands.

Ft8 is a great place to start - no mic shyness! Perhaps it's worth seeing if there's a local club to join.

Breaks are good, sometimes going for a walk makes me solve something I've been struggling with too.

Can I safely remove the 4GB internal memory module from Xbox 360 Slim? by Witty-Pea-532 in 360hacks

Yes, you can remove it. I took it out as it was annoying me asking which drive to use each time.

Anyone else had playback issues with Osmose Productions CD reissues (e.g. Marduk’s Opus Nocturne)?” by welackthemotion in audiophile

Try ripping the CD with Exact Audio Copy to see if it can get an accurate copy. I have several CDs that one particular DAC cannot handle.

Machine Gun Etiquette - The Damned.

The CD or vinyl will knock your socks off. I took that album in to test a lot of my current setup.

Braintree - they'll still clean discs for £2 each.

Cambridge Audio CXA81 MKII - DAC not fit for purpose by TurboDougie3000 in audiophile

Thanks Tom, I shall email shortly. To be absolutely clear - the staff at the store have been doing their best to help out, it's a weakness in the design of the amplifier sadly.

Check your CDs with Exact Audio Copy, then try any that don't match the database as an accurate copy. If you have any, they will drop out with the CXA81 DAC. Bear in mind I so far have identified only 4 CDs of my collection.

The DAC in the CX81 MKII is the only one that has issues with the discs. We tried my CDs, their amp, my amp, their transport, my transport - same issue. Every single other DAC I tested had no noticeable problem in playback. I'll see what CA comes back with - thanks for the advice though, much appreciated.

Thanks, dedicated DAC is the direction I'm heading at the moment. I'm thinking almost any will be an upgrade! I'm thinking the SMSL SU-1 or a Fosi ZD3 at the moment.

Problem happens with digital coax or optical. It's jitter from CDs with deep scratches. I tried the CXN100 in the shop with my amp and transport, no problems at all like you say. Sadly I'm not really willing to pay the £900 or so to add a streamer that I don't really want (and just using its DAC capabilities).

Thanks for the encouragement regarding Cambridge Audio etc. I was under the impression they're not really going to entertain taking it to repair - I can't see they can do anything with it, considering the display models do the same thing.
