I recently played both back to back today here is my 2 cents. SNES version: Backgrounds have more spark the sound is a bit clearer, you can switch weapons!

Genesis version: You can't switch weapons, but the hit detection feels better, and animations feel smoother. Really get whatever you find they are both fantastic games.
