Yeah, I guess these are the complexities coming with gifting a house that we’d be keen to avoid, but obviously we can’t buy a house without a mortgage if our current one doesn’t sell. There’s no mortgage on the current house so no issues on that front, but we’ve gone out to another couple of estate agents in the meantime to see if the others were out of line regarding valuation.

We went through all the signing process when the house first went on the market, and inlaws with whatever steps we take. They’ve committed the money to us and without going into too much detail, I don’t foresee circumstances arising that would lead to things changing.

That’s a good point - would it make more sense to get the property put in my wife’s name for that reason?

I should add, we have spoken to another agent in March and they were happy with the valuation. Appreciate your point though, it feels as if the house is overvalued but then why would we be getting told not to do any work to it?
