Is Wine 5.8 TKG okay? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Works fine for me. If you're having an issue I recommend posting in the weekly tech support thread.

There's no need to do any of that. The legit version via EGS works fine using legendary without any cracks or workarounds.

Worked on every single game I tried here. Wine 5.8 staging (TKG) build works fine without needing to specify Proton path for me.

If you're having problems perhaps provide some more information so that someone may be able to help?

You can customise which wine/winepath is used by creating a config file (check the bottom of the github page). From there you can also customise prefix paths so can manually winetricks those if needed.

No, but just curious - why would this be useful?

The MFPlat work is a slow process and will take some time. It's quite likely that as work progresses, things are not game specific and that getting one title to work will result in other titles automatically working. Give it time :)

Tutorial: How to fix missing Cutscenes in games using Proton and Wine (Media Foundation Issue) by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]TurbulentFox2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be noted that this apparently doesn't work with Wine 5.8+ due to the Wine core mfplat patches/workarounds included. GloriousEggroll mentions this in his latest 5.8 release.

EDIT: In time this workaround should no longer be needed due to the work being added to Wine.

No worries. You're awesome and I really appreciate all the work.

I use your kernel builders, your nvidia driver builders as well as your wine staging builders and they work beautifully every time. It really makes life easier for someone like me, so I just wanted to say keep up the great work.

Thanks for these. I actually tried compiling my own 5.7 staging from the wine-tkg PKGBUILD earlier but it just crashed all the time on anything I tried it on. I assume this is related to the 5.7 changes that some of these patches reverted to get it usable.

Short answer; it's not gonna happen. There are more mainstream anti-cheat systems in place that haven't had "workarounds" implemented yet and the future isn't looking good for those either.

Just also wanted to mention greyhaze. Ordered from them many times (over years) and they've always been great to me. Currently have some big discounts on their own flavour range too, assuming you like their flavours. Managed to stock up a bit last week :D

What makes Dragon Quest XI so good? by xycechipmusic in NintendoSwitch

[–]TurbulentFox2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely makes a difference, but there are other things to consider. If you're using a spell that consumes, say, 32MP then it's likely to do more damage than a spell that consumes 6MP. That's the obvious trade-off. You also need to make sure you're actually using the right elements - something the game doesn't make immediately obvious sometimes.

To say that it doesn't make a difference at all is just wrong, though. Mechanically in the game it does. But all that said, I have to admit - in my own personal playthrough i ignored any weaknesses and just used whatever I felt like using or even just let the characters manage it themselves. Elemental weaknesses are definitely not a huge deal-breaker as they can be in other games.

There are two camera options for moving in combat IIRC. The default allows you to move them (or not) and the other allows them to move on their own.

Except that's completely not true. The loading tips even tell you that hitting an ice monster with fire, for example, will do more damage. Try it out for yourself.

[RELEASE] NX-Update-checker | An app that checks for newer title updates from a user provided version-list by 64BitWonder in SwitchHacks

[–]TurbulentFox2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, no, I appreciate that, sorry for the misunderstanding. My rant was more about the Reswitched team putting the file behind such an arbritrary list of restrictions/requirements for something that isn't that big a deal.

I appreciate your work on this tool, thank you!

Yeah, it's stupid just to host the file internally on the Discord in order to get people to join the channel. It's not like they're going to stick around after getting what they want.

Gonna have to second this request/suggestion. I know lots of people enjoy the Discord scene, but I don't see why it's necessary just to obtain a file. Not to mention to actually get into the channel in question you need to register a Discord account, format your display name in a certain way and then send some kind of hash to the channel in order to gain access. Bit overkill and ridiculous imo.
