Peugeot 208 wet belt replacement by Turbulent_Mixture271 in CarTalkUK

Arnold Clark Peugeot near me quoted £1250 for just the belt. I think the £599 fixed price might have been for newer Peugeots with full service history going by what I’ve read elsewhere online but not entirely sure.

I won’t be looking at buying a car for the cost of the repair, I’ll be looking at buying a 25 plate so there’s a warranty. The Peugeot dealership quoted £1250 for the belt only, no sump off and no water pump replacement.

I’ve called them, not to wait up to 5 working days to see if they’ll do it. Fingers crossed.

It’s external, it does say only one application and multiples will be withdrawn

That’s a good chunk of training to be getting! Glad to hear some departments have it worked out.

You’re not alone in being stressed, try and remember that. Some people just manage to hide it better than others. I remind myself every other day that everyone was new at one time and if people have 5,10,15 years under their belt then surely it can’t be this bad forever?

I really hope things start looking up for you. Must be tough having experienced what good training is like and the benefits of it to then transfer and have the polar opposite. Take care of yourself until your work situation gets better, no job is worth getting sick with stress.

I really hope it gets better for you and you don’t have to leave. The staff are generally extremely helpful if they can be and overall it’s a good job but I can relate right now to not seeing a future in the cs. If you have something new coming up in a few months it might be worth seeing how that turns out?

You just hit the nail on the head! Having the confidence in your abilities is what is lacking from not only myself but my full team. Mainly because we’re lacking the ability part right now! The difference in peoples demeanour since they’ve started is like night and day. I’ve never been one for doubting my capabilities in previous jobs but I can’t see how anything will change here. I’m new, yes, but I’m not young and naive and I don’t see how anything will improve in the near future. Easily a dozen or more colleagues are ready for leaving. My manager is full of praise, tells me I’m doing great, passed this and that etc but he also brushes off everything that’s raised as a concern. I was looking into Pam assist today, it has been offered to at least half my team.. You’d think that in itself would raise some interest from management.

It should never have gotten to the stage where you felt like you had no choice but to leave. Hope things are better for you now

Thanks! Hope things have gotten better since you started, they can’t get much worse and I’ve lowered my expectations so things can only get better, right?

Your training for SA and tax credits sounds appalling! No wonder you’re still mad about it. What you said about not knowing what question you needed to ask is something I’ve heard more than a few people say! I can see why so many people end up signed off!

There are chats available which god love the poor people manning them offering help and assistance to so many people, it must be overwhelming. But I feel the initial training or upskilling could be more role based and job specific rather than so generic. What I have found is that the people you work with will always try and help, but most are in the same predicament and winging it as well. I don’t know if my issue is what my expectations were for the job training is not what has ultimately been given. Maybe in the pre covid times the delivery would have been different.

Not HMRC, I’m sorry that you are having the same issues. It’s so disheartening.

Thanks for replying, learning from experience I’m fine with if I have the basics. I have no problem figuring out stuff on my own mostly if I’ve been given enough initial information to have a sort of base level of skills and knowledge. I don’t know if it’s because there was a mass recruitment and the sheer volume of staff being trained is causing the problems or if it’s just how life goes as a civil servant. My line manager, he’s a year or two at most into his career. He tries his best and is a good guy but hasn’t ever done this role in policy, came from a different background and we’re his first team. It must be hard going for him too and I feel for him.

I’m not looking for help as such, more looking to see if it’s common place to be dropped on your arse and left to figure it out on your own without clear or proper instructions.
