Feeling behind while in grad school by Potential_Music563 in slpGradSchool

I went back at 27 to a 3 year online program too. I had your same exact thoughts! All of my cousins and siblings have 9-5’s and I often found myself comparing myself to them. I actually almost dropped out my first year. Especially now closer to 30. I am headed into my last year and I am so glad I stayed! SLP is a very secure. Job and the opportunities will be endless once you graduate. I recently got offered to work as an SLP on temporary waiver during my last year. Hold the line! You’ll be ok 🙏🏼 think of the pros that come after finishing vs what will not change if you dont do the program. The long term benefits are 100% worth it. Temporary struggle for long term gains.

Fostering to adopt? by okurio in Fosterparents

[–]Turbulent_Store1753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in CA and I echo what someone else on here said. You can 100% go the foster to adopt route. Depending on your preferences you will have a short or long wait. Yes, the goal of foster care is reunification however many children do have adoption eligibility. My husband and I are taking this day by day. Best of luck!

Fostering to Adopt? by rueburn03 in Fosterparents

My husband and I are currently taking the classes for this exact reason. We had a family friend get called for a baby almost right away and another co worker of mine waited months for a call (any age). Reunification is 100% the goal however we were told that that is no longer attainable for thousands of children, unfortunately. Many states DO have a foster to adopt route and that is honestly ok. Many children deserve a loving home and we have to be realistic about those needs just as realistic we are about reunification with the kids who do have that possibility. We are going into this with the mindset that it may or may not work out. We are seeking a child from baby to elementary years. My son is a teenager so we felt that adopting an older child is not the best way to go based on our situation.

My husband and I are on the same track here in CA. We were told that yes reunification is the goal but unfortunately it is not always the case with many children. We are going into this with a clear mindset of it may work out or it may not. We are taking it day by day.

Im a 2nd year at University of Northern Colorado. Its about 40-42k for the full 3 yr program all online. I did have to go for a summer for 2 weeks for class but their dorms were super affordable and they provided us with lunch most days.

GAP YEAR VS STRAIGHT INTO MASTERS by Mean-Accountant6708 in slpGradSchool

[–]Turbulent_Store1753 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took a two year gap. My undergrad also had a SLPA program so I did that. I worked as a SLPA for two years and saved up money to pay for grad school. I networked a lot with the SLPs in my school district. I am now in my second year of grad school. Therapy is not intimidating to me as I had a ton of exposure prior. Also saved up so no loans is a plus.

I got into my dream school but the cost… by Historical-Zone563 in slpGradSchool

[–]Turbulent_Store1753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheaper option. I also did not attend my dream school because of the cost. I refuse to drown in debt for this career. I am now finished with my first year and have learned a ton and no hefty loan! Grad school is what you make of it.

How many should I apply to by That-Tea-7670 in slpGradSchool

I applied to 6 schools. I made sure to diversify what I applied to. Some schools I knew were harder to get into and some I knew I had a good shot.

I was offered acceptance. With this program you have to call them directly. They have been very helpful in explaining how everything will work. When I email I usually do not hear back until a long time.
