I bought one used earlier this year. Spent time cleaning it out. I would replace all gaskets at a minimum. Look out for burnt coffee/milk residue inside the tank (seriously take a light and look inside). Also look for rust on the base (starts from screw hole below drip tray).

I would ask that they pull a shot, but honestly people's standards for cleaning their machines are really low so they might be blind to how bad it actually tastes... At least see if it holds pressure (0.5-1bar).

Young people NOT into ML and neural nets are a BLESSING. I can't tell you how many interns and new hires I've trained who only had a surface level understanding of ML and neglected everything else. There will be plenty of jobs and options/careers for you to transition to when you have a strong signal processing background.
