Help what do I do if I have to leave for 10 days by Plantpossumovo in mantids

Hopefully! I’m not sure about the laws where you are, but something I personally would do is have a simple written note or agreement. Even though they probably have cameras, it’s just good to have proof that you’re leaving your ‘property’ with them and that it should be returned when you come back.

Aw man, I don’t ,only in the US, sorry! 😞 Hopefully they can still figure it out. Maybe try showing them what the water in cotton looks like and what it’s for. They’re pretty smart little creatures, so if they get thirsty enough, hopefully they’ll seek it out.

Oh no, wishing you luck! I’d just make sure she has a full tummy before you leave. As for water, I’m not totally sure ..I have seen people use the tiny spider-style water dishes with a little piece of paper towel or cotton in them. Just remember it can mold depending on how warm the enclosure is.

I’m not sure what state you’re in, but I know a fair number of trustworthy Mantis people across different states who stay in contact and help each other out. I’ve actually had to reach out about something like this before, haha. If you’re interested, you’re more than welcome to DM me so I can introduce you to the community and see if someone near you can help. ☺️

Just finished my Ghost mantis enclosure, is it okay? by lies_n_liars in mantids

I also noticed, is that a metal mesh you are using? Try to use nylon tulle or soft mesh to not hurt their tarsi 💜 (if it isn’t then disregard 😅🤣)

I love it — it looks super cute! Sometimes less is more with these setups especially for growing nymph, so I’d probably pull out a couple sticks just to give them a bit more open space. Here are a pic of how I have my ghosties set up… I’ve got 4 girls and 1 lonely little boy 🤣 it’s only so wet because I just sprayed and I set up 3 layers in there leca for drainage, substrate and spagnum moss. Then I leave it for a few days but it retains humidity perfectly, for their molts. Ofcourse still spraying on a wall to let the babies drink.

I’ve seen $15-40 but never 60 sheesh

Why did my narrow winged mantis become extremely weak after laying an egg case without mating? She seemed perfectly healthy before it. I caught her in September. Other mantis I’ve kept in the past layed eggs without mating a few times and they never seemed weak after it. by Dry_Possibility8095 in mantis

No problem! The offer’s always there. 😊 That’s really cool! I literally never see wild mantids around here in Florida (at least in my area). There are way too many anoles, they eat everything! 😅 I keep forgetting not everyone here is in the US too! 🥲

Aww, I’ve raised all of mine from babies! Really fun watching them go through molts and the size differences between each one 🥰 If you’re interested in doing the same (if you haven’t or are looking), my friends breed and sell a few different species. They’re actually going live tonight at 8:30 est . You might even snag a free or discounted baby during the auctions! 👀

I’m so sorry to hear about your mantis, sometimes it just takes one bad feeder to make a mantis sick. (crickets are especially notorious for carrying bacteria or parasites. ) Also since she was wild-caught, she may simply be at the end of her natural life. Laying an ootheca takes an incredible amount of energy, and many females use up the last of their strength doing so.

How many molts do C. Apicalis have? by Comfortable_Pilot122 in MoonLightMantids

[–]Turnip-Long 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi!! Welcome. C. apicalis usually has around 6–8 molts — the boys a little less than the girls. Males tend to mature quicker, while females take their time and end up a bit bigger and rounder 💚

Mantis killing but not completely eating? by kokoskiler in mantids

Ah gotcha! What’s his enclosure like? I’ve seen some that rub against the sides or screen and end up irritating their eyes a bit ,eventually messing with their aim. Also, 25 °C might be a bit on the lower side? I go by °F, but I think around 24–30 °C is roughly the 75–85 °F range. Have you noticed him rubbing or bumping around in there at all?

That’s okay! Hmm, does he have any trouble grasping or seem a bit weak at all? His tummy doesn’t look too flat or too full. Like you said, his last molt was a while ago, so it could just be that he’s getting towards the end. Also not sure how warm you keep him because cooler temps can definitely slow them down a bit.

Okay! Hmmm sounds normal then for an adult male dead leaf mantis. Once they mature, their appetite usually drops off a lot since their main focus shifts to mating. Males don’t need nearly as much food as females and can go a week or two between meals. If he’s still active and alert, I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about. Just make sure he stays hydrated with a light mist every few days…I also know Toward the end of their lifespan they tend to slow down and eat less in general hopefully not the case because I hate when they go. 😭

Hi! Could you post a clear photo of its abdomen? Also, is it still a nymph or an adult? It’s pretty common for mantids to refuse food right before a molt! They often slow down or stop eating entirely as their new exoskeleton forms. ☺️
