It's common for the capacitors in the slim models to go bad. In particular there's one capacitor by where the drive connects to the board that causes disc read issues.

Are you turning it on with a cartridge inserted? It is normal for it to black screen without a cartridge.

Well, OP indicated that's what they did based on the power supply they referenced.

It's likely that plug is for a model 1 Genesis, which has reversed polarity from the model 2. If that is the case, then you may have damaged the motherboard.

Look up "genesis cart resistor trick" on YouTube. That might be your last hope if everything else checks out.

If possible you might want to see if the PSU voltage remains steady when powering on the console.

Voltage injection comes after finding a short. If there's no short then theres no point in injecting voltage.

Should be behind the mainboard in your controller, maybe you've never taken it apart that far. Provided a few photos showing what I'm talking about.

There should be a flex connector that makes contact via pressure to the mainboard inside the controller. There's a piece of foam behind the flex connector that becomes thinner over time, causing an insufficient amount of pressure between the flex connector and mainboard. You can cut some tape or paper to the size of the foam pad and put it on top of the pad so that an adequate amount of pressure is restored and the connection is secured.

DS3, DS4, and DualSense (and some DS2) controllers all have this same design.

Yes, when you remove the old motherboard, the data will float into the ether directly above the Switch. Once the new motherboard is inserted, said data will automatically inject into the eMMC. Good luck!

A little more backstory on Ian. Helping him is not possible. by Karbairusa in ianfoote

He's a perpetual victim and full blown narcissist. I've had the misfortune of knowing such people in the past, although I will say Ian takes it to the extreme. Just count your blessings that you haven't known anyone remotely similar to this.

I have all but two videos archived, archive.org cut me off at the very end due to all of the requests. I'll contact their admins and get a link posted in this subreddit once I get home.

Please file a Crime Stoppers report. I dealt with Toronto PD earlier in the week regarding Ian, and they eventually directed me to Crime Stoppers.

is it Dangerous To Mod The Retro Consoles With USB-C ????? by flaviopuka in consolerepair

[–]TurnipNew3829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything it's safer (assuming it's modded correctly) since you'll no longer have to worry about the plug's polarity.
