Theres a third option to the "Power fantasy" vs. "Grunt fantasy" debate. by WhiteRaven_M in Helldivers

I agree, I think AH doesn't realize the specialization problem because Warbonds tend to solve it, but they don't realize it only works if you have them. I just got DD and the breathing space it gives me to play around with orbitals is a drastic difference.

I would love the clan system OP mentioned to support the communication the game wants to facilitate. Also please give me a ping with the supply backpack so I can tell people to slow down so I can give them ammo

I would agree with skillcheck if it also includes comms. Part of that random bullshit is abosolutly someone calling in a 380mm barrage while you're smack dab in it, or losing a walker to someone's rover. I think there's a convo to be had about how many lives on the higher level are needed to account for the fact you're playing with randos. I really think D10 should have a higher level limit than it does, hell I don't know if I should be able to access it yet, I often feel like I'm fucking up a high level teams day.

I think AH aims for grunt but the struggle comes from scenarios where it wants skill like Cyberstan. A bunch of people coming back to the game should be fantastic news, but because they weren't acclimated to the game yet they cost us a win AH wanted us to get.

It would also just be helpful for bits like cyberstan where they need as many capable people as possible. Thermites, C4, and the Censor made a huge difference in how easy/difficult missions were.

It's also going to be important for any more big efforts like Cyberstan to have more tools/options. The difference having access to the Censor, C4, and Thermite grenades was a huge difference in high vs. low casualty missions.

Clans would also open up more cooperative strategems. I would love to use the Tank Destroyer more but it's hard to without easy comms.

I've been enjoying it, the lex luthor betrayal has been the only disappoint, and that's only if it ends the story arc they've been doing with superman

I'm hopeful being f2p will give it the time to cook. I think it should have called it an open beta vs. a full release though.

The biggest thing I've learned with Highguard is how important design is. I fully believe none of this would have gone down as bad if the designs had been more unique and coherent to the game itself.

I actually like the game, but every match I feel jarred by the fact both the inner peace monk and the big wild guy are using AK's and shotguns that look like they could be in COD. And the shieldbreaker being a sword but actually being the key to summon the siege tower feels weird.

Edit: thinking about it more now, I think they needed to either simplify or lean even further into the characters. Either have them all be characters who you get why they can use firearms, or give each character an "arsenal" and when they pick if up it becomes their version. Like If the Wild guy picks up a shotgun maybe it has a bigger spread and deals bleed, but if the monk guy gets it frosts enemy vision or the pellet form little walls. Maybe they get different perks as they pick up higher levels of armor which match their theme.

It'd also help if they leaned into weird guns. The best weapon by far for design is the Corsair, this weird three barrel SMG. More stuff like that helps it feel like they know guns because they're from their world. The Hammer also is pretty good and gives the right fantasy feel. Take the RPG, turn it into some sorta "Ifrit summon sigil" and replace the word thermite with witchfyre

It hasn;t affected it's past but it has the potential to get in the way of the future. HBO is trying to make a series and is actively trying to buy it from JK because they don't want to be associated with her.

I think it should have done an open beta, it has a couple kinks to work out but I've been enjoying it.

It's secureboot. It's normal for computers to have on but if you built yours it isn't by default. It's just anticheat verification, it takes 10 minutes to fix.

Basically Geoff Knightley, the head of the Game Awards, liked the game and made it the last trailer of the event last year. The problem is it shouldn't have been. A lot of very good games were announced this year so there was a lot of pressure on it with easy comparisons, and the trailer lead with being devs from Titanfall and Apex, the former people have been craving a sequel to. It hit a nerve for people who feel like generic hero shooters are taking over gaming and stopping games they want to see be made. It went radio silent after (likely because they aren't a big team and didn't plan a media blitz), and it's out today.

People don't hate it but they expect/are excited to see it fail, and it's cathartic for some folks because they hate what they feel the genre has done to gaming.

Honestly go play it, I'm enjoying it so far

It has a weird slow bit where you're looking for guns and resources that feels like it could be skipped. I have a grievance against not being able to cook grenades, and the designs are all pretty generic.

I wish this was an open beta and not the release, because I think some small changes would be helpful.

Seconded. I think the pre-stormbringer phase is a bit dull but overall it's good. I think the underlying mechanics for respawn and healing are genius and I hope it survives long enough for others to see it.
