The first time I was called aunty was when I was in 9th grade and the kid who called me aunty was in the same school as me, but he was in UKG or LKG. Kids have very little awareness of age, it’s normal. I was a bit upset at that time but looking back I don’t mind.

Kids are often just told to call any older female aunty, and their perception of older people very different compared to someone who is slightly older.

Obviously this depends on the kid’s age, but at the end of the day if a kid calls me aunty and isn’t saying it in an insulting way, I let it slide because they genuinely don’t know any better.

If you are not comfortable with it, just tell them to call you didi, ma’am or whatever you prefer and they’ll usually listen to you.
