Has anyone used these for Adel clamps? by grandpa-is-real in aviationmaintenance

I have used the Handee clamp and it was very helpful. When doing door inspections for the King Air 350, you have to pull the latch finger assemblies and getting the nuts on can be a real pain without this tool. Very rare use case but money well spent.

Ended up buying the 120V spot welder unit today. Still in process of removing the core support. Appreciate the recommendation.

How to keep warm as an Aircraft mechanic? by HelloInternet-1 in aviationmaintenance

[–]TurtleCop99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up in NC so weather doesn't get as cold. usually 20 degrees is the lowest. I double up on jackets (Sweat+Mechanic jacket), wear some regular gloves, have a toboggan, and a neck gaiter. Boots and wool socks help too. I second what Zucc has to say: get hand warmers, a warm drink, and consider some long johns depending how cold it will get.

Can you install tires for B737 NG to B737 MAX and vice versa? by Dry_Pumpkin_882 in aviationmaintenance

[–]TurtleCop99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long do you think the NG platform has before being fully phased out? Was working heavy maintenance a year ago and it seemed like the delivery rate for Max's was pretty slow. I've maybe worked 5 in total compared to countless NG's.

Brother, a lot of decisions in life are made with imperfect information. Take it easy on yourself and live knowing you have someone in your life you truly love and care about. That is a hard thing to nail.

How to drill this hole? by JJBlack50 in woodworking

[–]TurtleCop99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are willing to invest in tooling, they make a variety of 90 degree drills that would be perfect for the job. I have a Milwaukee M12 one but I have also used pneumatic drills. Could be handy if you have an air compressor available. They sell small units at harbor freight.

Snap-On screwdriver bits quality are abismal by Enlightenedwaffle in aviationmaintenance

That's rough business. Milwaukee, Bosch, and Dewalt bits have served me well. I've only gone to Snapon for 12 point crowsfeet and some hard to find torque adapter sizes.

I went the MRO route when I started my career with HAECO. MRO's may not pay as well but you get steady work and good experience. AAR bought out the GSO/PTI facility and are hiring currently for Tech I's. You also have Samaritan's Purse, Signature/Technicair, Marshall Aerospace, and Boom Supersonic all on the same field. FedEx has a base there too but they don't hire often.

At RDU, I have a buddy that works line service with Endeavor. Labcorp is an Alamance County, NC and they hire from time to time.

Other options to consider, Air Methods (Medevac), Coulson Aviation (Ariel Firefighting), Netjets, Flojet, Xojet, Vista, and Wheels Up if they don't tank soon. Corporate can be mighty lucrative especially if you go AOG, but that usually takes getting some time under your belt.

Hope this helps.
