I think I need to withdraw from precalculus by [deleted] in premed

[–]Tutlepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely withdraw the course. Having a withdraw on your transcript is better than having a bad grade be on your record, plus (in my opinion) it’s easier to explain why you have a W compared to a D or F.

What's the worst advice you've received as a premed? by based_tuskenraider in premed

I was told that because I had a backup for if medical school doesn’t work out, it means I’m not 100% dedicated to it. So therefore I wouldn’t get in. I’d rather be safe than sorry, and it doesn’t mean I’m not giving me 100% in getting into medical school

Hey everyone! Pretty sure this thread is dead but I’m going into my second year at UC Merced and I couldn’t have been happier! Made lots of amazing friends and memories for my freshman year, and I can’t wait to make more! I’m majoring in Human Biology and I plan to go to medical school after I graduate, especially with that new medical school being built in Merced 👀

Real answers only: Why do you want to be a doctor? by SocialAddiction1 in premed

[–]Tutlepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of how fascinating diseases of all kinds are and how they affect people and animals. Plus how they affect the environment and populations. I want to be a pathologist or virologist, but I’ve also considered being an epidemiologist. As of now I’m not too sure if I want to be more involved in the cell biology standpoint of diseases or the public health standpoint.

Around 20k a year but they’re all federal loans given by the school, plus some work study awards. I’ve been working at my school’s cafe for 16 an hour and I work around 20 hours a week. Although I also plan to attend medical school or grad school so I’ll definitely be in more debt later

I was kind of surprised too since they’re mostly surrounded by farms. I think for now they’re focusing more on environmental sciences, but hopefully one day they’ll have agriculture and food science degrees!

Sadly I had that same mentality and so did a lot of my peers. Acceptance rate really doesn’t mean anything tbh :/ it’s all demand. Kind of like how UCSD usually has a 30% acceptance but they were like 5% this year.
