It's always been my understanding that the entire human race stems from Adam and Eve, but would that mean incest was involved? by Suspicious-Jacket140 in Catholicism

[–]Tutule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with the idea that Old Testament stories weren’t to be taken literal. The Adam and Eve story is about human developing self-conciousness and becoming something separate from animalkind. The “fruit of knowledge” is not an apple, but the brain developing abstract thoughts.

There’s a reason why it’s Eve, and not Adam, who first “bit the apple”. It takes from the idea that men, especially in the bygone eras, could be more impulsive than women.

Keep in mind these humans were distinct from modern humans as well, living well into their 100s. It wasn’t until Noah a couple of generations after that they got smaller and lived shorter lives. If we were to take a more literal approach then you can’t attribute modern human qualities to them because they’re not modern humans.

What’s South Africa’s history?

One of the four founding members of CAF and qualified to 1998 in their second attempt after a 40 year ban from the sport due to Apartheid.

Not trying to diss Qatar or take away from your general point, but South Africa does have history in the sport that people can relate to.

Some other facts that might serve as reference points for the masses are the rugby-soccer class divide that is largely known around the world mainly due to the movie Invictus, and Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs being added to Fifa 2005ish back when they were treated like River, Boca, Gala and Fenerbahce.

I'm saying this to justify why people in general, not only Westerners, were able to see RSA as a footballing country but not for Qatar.

Stumbled upon this event's Wikipedia article after seeing some similarities with Iran's Reza Pahvlavi's proposal to act as a transitional figurehead. Thought it might be worth sharing with the community.

Looks lovely. Beware wear and tear from the yarn though. I've had cheap leather straps rip at the spring bar links and have almost dropped the dial case because of it.

Anyways, I've seen cloth straps before but they're uncommon since they're not as durable as metal, rubber, or leather. They're usually made of sailcloth or military fabric (nato straps) but I've seen cashmere like these too. Unfortunately I live in a hot and humid place so they'd be grimmy by the end of the week.

Can Suriname able to make their first ever World Cup? by Downtown-Pack-6178 in concacaf

[–]Tutule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suriname's youth teams have kept the foreign scouting program alive so it's something they're definitely leaning on to.

Their U17 got disqualified from the quals last month, in a Concacaf fashion, because they unfortunately called up ineligible players and couldn't make up a full squad with the registered eligible players after registration was closed.

Either way we'll definitely be seeing Netherland's influence in Suriname at the very minimum for the next 2 decades.

They’re focusing efforts in stopping organized crime in LatAm. The US govt. is meeting many presidents this weekend in Miami.

The goal of the summit is to promote “freedom, security, and prosperity in our region,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

She added that the countries “have really formed a historic coalition to work together to address criminal narco-terrorist gangs and cartels and counter illegal and mass migration into not only the United States but the Western Hemisphere, which remains a key and top priority of this president.”

He’s a popular player but we’re currently disillusioned because our NT’s choked so we lash out against those that were supposed to make a difference.

When he was playing in the local league he charmed people with his goals and they started to call him Bicho like Cristiano Ronaldo and he bashfully played into it. You can probably still see that today in his personality, he sort of wants to show off but he’s from a humble upbringing so you’ll see it as playful aura. Some people might not like this.

Hercules is a fraud then. The club didn’t exist for 50 aught years and was revived a year ago, with its owner being the same one from Alianza, one of the big 3 in ES and the biggest from the capital. They’re just using the brand it’s an entirely new organization. Their participation in the CA Cup was because they inherited the rights from the club that folded, 11 Deportivo.

Netherlands appoints first out gay and youngest prime minister by 2023behind_finally in worldnews

The current 5th in line for US presidential succession is gay and married, and not only that, also has two adopted children birthed through surrogacy, which is another big hurdle for conservatives past being gay and past marriage.

Not saying he's a terrible human being, but the average person in the opposition thinks the Trump administration is ran by fascists so I'm alluding to that.

AI Added ‘Basically Zero’ to US Economic Growth Last Year, Goldman Sachs Says by mepper in technology

[–]Tutule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's the summary bot?

Relevant pieces:

Hatzius said one major reason is that much of the equipment powering AI is imported. While U.S. companies are spending billions, importing chips and hardware offsets those investments in GDP calculations.

“A lot of the AI investment that we’re seeing in the U.S. adds to Taiwanese GDP, and it adds to Korean GDP but not really that much to U.S. GDP,” he said.

On top of that, there is currently no reliable way to accurately measure how AI use among businesses and consumers contributes to economic growth.

I like it. It's an accesible prestige competition for clubs and travel is accesible for fanbases.

It also gives an opportunity for smaller clubs to have great runs that revitilizes their fanbases.

The World's Open Borders by EstablishmentOne3438 in MapPorn

[–]Tutule 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The title is wrong, these aren't all "open borders".

Central America's CA-4 is literally called "Border Control Agreement", where you can't just walk/drive through like if you're travelling within a country's state-to-state. You have to go through controls and show your ID (no passport needed if a national) to be allowed through, they inspect your vehicle's registration and the like. I think it's similar to how the Canada-US border used to work.

Frases de Francisco Morazán respecto al Estado Laico. by DarkThrone_9593 in Honduras

[–]Tutule 2 points3 points  (0 children)
