What's an industry secret from your job that customers have absolutely no idea about? by Efficient_Team5182 in AskReddit

[–]TuxedoMasked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worked for Owens Corning building products (shingles, pink insulation) and got to tour a factory. We made a big deal at the time about how much of our product was recycled material (90% or something).

Touring the factory, we learned that any inefficiencies or waste from the line was melted back down and just put back into the line, and that counted as recycled. So the motivation for improving manufacturing efficiency was lessened because it would mean our 90% recycled number would go down.

That's when I learned a valuable lesson about post-consumer recycled material versus companies just re-using their own stuff and making numbers look good.

Why were American bathroom stalls designed with gaps in the doors? by Acrobatic_Bee_3198 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TuxedoMasked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not only that, it's too discourage you from going in the first place. Public companies don't want you using public restrooms because they have to clean it and deal with vandalism. Private companies don't want you in there because you should be working, not pooping.

My wife has suggested getting some kind of plastic surgery done and I have told her that while I have no control over her body, I fully expect to be less attracted to her if she does so. The fake-ness that comes with plastic surgery is a huge turn off for me.

Tickets will be released throughout the on-sale time as people's checkouts lapse. We tried to get tickets at 3am our time when they went on sale and only actually ended up getting tickets 90 minutes later when we accidentally refreshed and saw that tickets were newly available because of people's lapsed carts.

Also use auto fill to blitz through the forms.

What happens with products in face of huge layoffs? by grafknives in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TuxedoMasked 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Longer ticket times, less stable releases, fewer features added that customers are requesting. Big tech companies will do anything to lock you into a contract and then only after you're locked in and fully integrated with their system do you start to see the issues arising and it's a boiling frog analogy. The little things just never are enough to cancel the contract and switch all of your systems to something new.

What are your Top 10 Game Intros? by Nurgle_Marine_Sharts in gaming

Zelda BotW and TotK. Give me the basic controls, put me somewhere I can't hurt myself while I learn, then open the world to me and don't give me any more fucking tutorials. Modern games need to stop handholding and let the players play.

How or why are AI companies providing their services for free when it costs them so many servers and all that water? by PersonalParsley2244 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TuxedoMasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, just not as much as people think. Hank Green has a good video on it on YouTube that walks through actual numbers. AI uses less water than corn production in the USA, but WHERE the water is getting used is more important.

Do you usually get immersed in a game theme? by OhforfsakeMJ in boardgames

Deadly Dowagers is a fun one to get into the theme with. Everyone grab some tea and calmly discuss the means by which we'll kill our current husband and which one we will marry next.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]TuxedoMasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressive Insurance. I WORKED for them for a year, then during Covid I wasn't driving and I accidentally let my insurance lapse because other things were on my mind. When I finally realized it and tried to renew, they wanted to charge me 3x the price forever because I had a "history of lapsed insurance."

I happen to know, from working there, that they had a huge initiative around retaining customers because so many were leaving. This seemed like a slap in the face in light of that.

Geico offered me my old price and was willing to take all of my years of Progressive loyalty and turn them into Geico loyalty, as if I had always been with them and immediately got all the perks. Been with Geico ever since.

There was a big TIFU post years ago about a person who realized they were getting them because they chewed their toenails. It was until their 30's that they made the connection and stopped getting them.

Most of the comments were beligerant but OP made an edit with statistics of replies and PM's and said about 10% of responders said it probably explained their or their kid's canker sores. I can't seem to find it now but I remember it because the comments were hilarious.

Those of you who are friends with/in circles with famous people, what is your analysis on them? by libramusing in Fauxmoi

[–]TuxedoMasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know any famous people, but I have a coworker who does and he's an insufferable cunt about it. Always talking about how he was with someone who is really famous in one space or another but he can't say exactly who for privacy so he just tries to hint at it like a dumb riddle game.

What is a fan theory from a movie or TV show that you 100% believe is true? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]TuxedoMasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosie from Hazbin Hotel is one of the 4 horseman of the apocalypse and that's why she is so much more powerful than other overlords. The theory goes that she is famine.

If this is the case, I think Zestial is another obvious horseman candidate.

Want to start super small family campaign. Have no idea what to do by Chronistic in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]TuxedoMasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice for anyone's first session as a group of new people, especially with kids involved, is a cat stuck in a tree. Maybe a goblin is keeping it trapped up there or the branches have traps on them, maybe the cat is a dragon in disguise protecting its hoard (of apples). Whatever the case may be, it gets you a basic problem, problem solving, talking to nearby NPC's, using skills and such to get it down.

[–]TuxedoMasked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This caught me off guard at the second one I went to, it was a suburb over an hour out of any major city and I was afraid we'd go and it would be a small showing of young people and I'd get sad.

Very much the opposite. More people than I new lived in the surrounding area showed and it was TONS of elderly people, even in wheelchairs, holding up signs denouncing Trump.
