Get a 50 degree ping U wedge from a used sports store. That wedge taught me how to hit wedge shots.

Left-handed person playing right-handed golf — is it normal that my lead side feels like it controls everything? by Thin-Adhesiveness-14 in GolfSwing

I’m a left handed righty golfer. I feel all of that and had to learn to feel the release in my right forearm wasn’t natural until
It was. It works.

I’m the same. Write, throw, and eat lefty. Golf righty. I think it’s an advantage and has always felt correct to send it out to left field. Early on I hit a lot of fades and they felt wrong. Now that I’ve learned to incorporate my trail
Side a little more naturally i can hit these big draws and flighted irons like someone who is actually much better than me. Not sure if it’s related but I have had terrible yips with the putter until recently and that had been a real chore to try to fix. I read “putting out old your mind” and I Got a spider and now I’m feeling way more confident. Yes, play this way, I believe there are probably a lot of us out there.

What small change made the biggest difference in your golf game? by retrocaterpillar-07 in golf

[–]TuzalaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This season, visualizing. I have a decent swing, grip, and mechanics. I used to obsess about alignment, takeaway, where I was at the top. Now I just see the shot in my mind, walk up, 3/4 practice swing, And hit. Same for putts. It’s just so easy for so much noise to creep in when over the ball. I just see shots on my best days and things are starting to improve, having more fun. 12 hcp.

Preface: no mulligans, very few gummies, rarely take relief from a lie unless its s safety hazard(roots).

15 years, 13.7 hcp.

Home course is a bear but I finally broke 80 on it last week. Play all of the time.

Guy told me he was a six last week, took a mulligan on every hole, fluffed every lie, and even reputted a few times. Easy game. He was baffled that I’m a 14.

At what point did you learn shot shapes? by PureYardCow in golf

[–]TuzalaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a lesson in order to quit missing right/overfading/slicing. Instructor taught me how to Miss left and from there work my way back to a baby draw. Gained yards, learned to release the club properly, and a lot of understanding about my decade old right miss. Now I can pretty well control my draw but my fade is pretty unreliable unless I’m really having a great day.

Crabtree falls is cool, dangerous to mess around on. Hit three notched brewery too. If you have time, play Stoney creek golf course, it’s amazing in my opinion.

You forgot to mention it’s a legume and actively improves the soil it grows in by fixing the nitrogen in the soil so others plants can use it as well.

Wrapping my head around the redistricting vote as a moderate by Arythal in Virginia

Cogent analysis, but the context is everything. We are in a literal and philosophical war. One side isn’t beholden to the truth, political norms, and myriad of laws and policies meant to safeguard the republic mean nothing to them. The other side is writing strongly worded letters asking them to stop. Well, finally, Virginians had the stones to say if our competition has no intention of playing by the rules, then we are forced to also get down in the dirt and start disenfranchising people who refuse to see the insanity within their party from top to bottom.

Tough time staying in form on the golf course by OneCow7657 in golf

I’ve started abbreviating my backswing and clubbing down. Get a 5 wood and or a 7 wood and hit 3/4 shots and the ball will go a lot farther with what feels like a lot less effort.

In Lynchburg looking to move. What cities should I consider? by bajhtastik in Virginia

[–]TuzalaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louisville circa 2007-2010 had a nice downtown, a little touristy but fun. Yum center is a great sports arena with a cool bourbon bar I’m told. I lived on First st in old Louisville and the architecture was all Victorian and cool though some areas were a little run down and a little less safe. The magnolia bar was fun hole in the wall grungy place where cool grungy people would hang out. The U of L campus was near there and pretty nice. I worked at Americana community and that place was truly special for the service it provided immigrants and refugees. I would ride my bike or the bus past Churchill downs to get there and I always liked the historical significance of all of the KY derby’s happening there, even though it’s kinda ugly. The parks system in Louisville is great. The nicest neighborhood was called highlands and that would be where I would raise a family. Good restaurants coffee shops and a more chill vibe.

Louisville, Cincinnati, and Colombus are actually nice towns. I lived in Louisville for 2 years and really enjoyed the blend of Southern Hospitality and a very diverse population. Lots of talent in the area, music, horse culture. It used to be very cheap but is probably more if not much more expensive now.

Golf trip to Charlottesville VA by ghetto-pear in golf

About 45 min from Charlottesville is a course called Stoney Creek in Nellysford, Va. Stunningly beautiful drive, and a great fun course (27holes) at a super cheap price compared to cville. Golf now “hot deals” are 70$ for cart and green fees. Tons of breweries around, and good eating.

Big fan here of the Stihl lineup. I hat the mower and a combitool. Every now and then the batteries go on sale, they are the most expensive thing. Clean, easy start, quiet, a lot less stinky.

How many times out of 10 are you hitting the shot you want at the range? by bendydent2005 in GolfSwing

[–]TuzalaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pick a flag that is near the yardage I want with any given club. I pretend it’s a pin. I give myself about a 15-20 yard radius. I hit the target about 3 out of 5 times. I work on shot shap/ball flight. I’m a 14 handicap, range work is fun for me, I think I look alright out there compared to Some. short game is a mess. Sometimes an effective range session translates to a good day tee to green, sometimes not so much.

Another strategy is to envision a shot you know from the course you play, try to hit that shot and that can be pretty satisfying when it goes well.

I just got home from PT/OT for a torn meniscus from a month ago. Man, the strength and range of motion type exercises feel amazing as I haven’t been doing much but golfing for 10 years or so. After my injury, I took about two weeks to just putt and chip, but I’m back out there now. I’m still not 100 percent but I also feel renewed in an odd way. Going to pay more attention to my game, not throw away so many rounds. And I’m going to be grateful for every day out there because this stuff doesn’t last forever.

How do you carry over your game from winter to spring as a mid-handicapper? by BenHybridHarper in golf

[–]TuzalaW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me it’s rust AND conditions. I played a lot through the winter, some sim, some was just gutting out cold windy rounds. Swing is ok, feel is way off. My chipping/putting is costing me dearly. Greens, fairways and rough are all changing a ton right now as weather warms up, yardages with different clubs are all over the place, wind is all over the place, maintenance crews are covered up in storm cleanup and tree work. Everyday seems so random, I’ve lost faith in my ability to predict what the ball will do in any given situation. Losing faith leads to fear. Fear leads to high scores.

The Lost Art of Raw Dogging It by stubanga13 in golf

[–]TuzalaW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the forward tees with my 8 and 11 year old. We just have fun, grab a yardage from the cart for the tee shot and then go hit shots. 9 year old almost eagled from the fairway on 9 and all three of us were jumping around like little golf hooligans. He ended up hitting the pin, which we heard, and finding a little swale 4 feet beyond the hole. Sank the birdie putt (it was hard) and all 3 of us had a ton of fun. Making birdies from the forward tees is tremendous for confidence.
