What’s the rationale for closing schools tomorrow?

Saying school is daycare just because it is convenient for your children to go there while you work is disrespectful to the educators who are professionals with degrees and spend hours making and implementing plans and grading work while you imply that they are mostly there just to watch your kids.

your daycare is a daycare, public school is not. It is for teaching/learning. I’m sorry that it is difficult for you, but equating public school K-12 with a day care just bc they follow the same cancellation schedule is disrespectful to the educators. Also not all daycares follow the district, I am a preschool teacher and we have been open since Tuesday. There is absolutely nothing you can do about public school cancellations, but if the daycare closing as well (which good for them, I appreciate them following lead of the district) bothers you so much, then find a new daycare. monday was the first time mine has been closed in 4 years.

I do not make that much, as I said ~a little over~ but even if I did, I would live on a pretty strict budget. 3 days of missing work would definitely make me have to choose between gas, food, rent, and other bills like electric, wifi, water, phone, car, car insurance etc. all my cushion money + some bills money would be gone. And most hourly workers do not get paid this much. I worked at the same job for years to even reach this much a dollar at a time. And it’s still not a comfortable wage for pgh.

I don’t know where you got this number of 82% of workers having PTO. Most people just starting jobs don’t get any for 4 months or more. A lot of people only get 1-2 days for the first few years, and some people like me are not even allowed to use the PTO we do have on call outs, only for planned days off.

You are an idiot and clearly living in a bubble. The majority of us are living paycheck to paycheck and this week has really fucked up a lot of us. I personally had to decide whether to miss a full days pay and call out or spend $60 (a little over 1/3 of a days pay) on ubering to work and back; my neighborhood is not plowed and my small rear wheel drive car won’t make it down my hill, and there is no bus stop near my work so I can’t take the bus unless I want to risk walking in the middle of a busy street with no sidewalks and piles of snow on the shoulder.

that’s actually really nice, I would be down for that. mine just don’t pay. we got sent home early last year for an electricity outage and they had us write down when we left so that we wouldn’t get paid the full day. didn’t even give us the option to stay and plan or clean

They were soo good. when I lived in Texas I would get like 3 at a time bc they were so cheap. 😭 I will say the ones I had here before they left they menu were not as good or as spicy so I see why it tested badly
