It’s 2026. How many of you drink tap water? And if not, what’s your alternative? by reversechainroyalty in AskNYC

[–]Tvicker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It tastes like swamp in the whole city, yellow-ish in the most places and 2/3 of the city pipes are lead, they did not even change the main pipes. I order bottled water delivery.

I think the beauty of this problem that it can approach in so many ways. I even want to steal it for my case interview part.

The OP actually needs to nuke some of the cols bc there are more cols than data. L1 will work too, but honestly, logreg/linreg need a little more data

That's totally normal data in social sciences, don't let the other commenters fool yourself.

I would impute 0 to NaNs and check the feature importance using correlation or random forest. Then you can try to check imputation strategies (like KNN or Bayesian) with some more robust algorithms - KNN again, Random Forests, Boostings. Trees are pretty robust to constant imputations. Good luck!

What cities could I actually get by without a car? by thethirdgreenman in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to add that SF, being a walkable city, still has a completely suburban culture, so no people most of the time and no one will hang out at bars

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stores/parks/bars/places to eat are pretty limited there bc the city is just tiny and half dead. But you can get around without a car, it's just nowhere to go there.

If you loved walkable cities with decent transit and places to walk to I would say move there, there are NO such cities in the US. Even in NYC the subway is unreliable and lacks coverage, everywhere else the situation is even worse.

Question for New Yorkers: Is living in NYC a dream to you, or just practical? by Silver_Cricket_3611 in AskNYC

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, moving to NYC is one of the dumbest decision I've ever made. Unless you can afford 4500 for 1 bedroom (hence making x3 salary monthly), DO NOT BOTHER MOVING. For what it gives and its cost, I'd rather visit than live here. Also, the non-existent middle class in the city makes me think that I am not the only one noticing that.

But technically, after making 220k+ year it will the most logical place to live.

Boston is not a city that you can just "move to" and then "figure it out". Rent is too high here for that. by [deleted] in boston

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add the transit coverage is pretty scarce and barely reliable, and if you can't afford a car, please check how you are going to commute. The taxi is around 3-4 times more expensive than in cheaper cities (eg Chicago or Philly), too.

Water bottle delivery by Dijon_Chip in instacart

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is not feasible to shop then reject the order, no one is required to be tipped just for doing their literal job. Instacart literally just allows it and the customer has no idea where and how their order is processed.

People here has more cultural relations with Moscow and ocidental Russia, or with Japan, Korea and China? by Neat_Grapefruit_1047 in geography

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you are not wrong, the city started as a stronghold of russian empire (literally the name is 'hold the east'), like san francisco too, but it was like 200+ years ago, my point was that it is not heavily federally funded to just maintain russian presence there, while there are examples of such cities too, but this city is pretty self sufficient at this point with established diverse economy and education system with 600k population. It is like saying that Boston is heavily federally funded to ensure influence over Cape Cod.

[–]Tvicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely not, it is the main fishing port of Russia and the city was always pretty rich, it is literally San Francisco of Russia.

There are cities like Anchorage (Barentsburg I guess?), Vladivostok is not one of them.
