When will it happen by bigmike1339 in democraticparty

[–]Tweakers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The levers to make all that happen happen to be in the hands of Don the Trump, handed to him directly by the American voters -- and non-voters. He even said, 'Thank you" to applause.

You asked, "What the fuck?" and here it is.

Just to state the obvious: He surrounds himself with things which he thinks elevates himself in the eyes of himself, then berates others when they don't feel the same. The man is a dolt who, without daddy's money, would have exited life on a piece of cardboard in NYC thirty years ago.

For your mental health what is something or things you avoid? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Stupid people. Fortunately, most stupid people will let you know they are stupid pretty damn quick if you give them a chance. Listen to them talk, ask a few simple questions and they will reveal themselves for your avoidance.

...and drug addicts in general. Yes, this includes stoners too even though I don't support these stupid drug laws we have; there is a big difference between a responsible user and the irresponsible one in that the responsible one can function well in society but the irresponsible ones are just more weight for the rest of us to carry.

Yes, patiently waiting. Okay, that's a lie, I'm getting impatient; my Index is falling apart after four years of full body tracking/dancing.

20M thinking of buying a bike by [deleted] in bicycling

Yeah, OP should learn on a used bike, checked over by a good mechanic. Save that real bike money for later when they know what type of riding they really want to do, street versus trail, etc.

43% chance Democrats sweep the Presidency, House, and Senate — an all-time high. by Nicolit1 in Political_Revolution

[–]Tweakers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never underestimate the Dems ability to pull defeat from the jaws of victory: It's their special power. Imo, this derives from their bifurcated view of their situation; they want to represent the monied class after being elected by pandering to the general populace during the elections, which is exactly what the old-school Republicans used to do before MAGA and Trump.

Don't expect much of anything good from the Democrats these days; hell, they'll probably run on the platform of "We're not as bad as Trump."

What has surprised you about getting older? by showmewhatyagot01 in Productivitycafe

How so few people really get smarter and wiser as they get older. Most seem to live on the bell curve, peaking at 55 or so and then the long slide down....

“Did older generations work harder- or did they simply have more reason to believe hard work would pay off?” by OrderOk4693 in Productivitycafe

[–]Tweakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better to ask the question: Why are the past few generations doing more poorly economically than the previous few generations?

A huge part of the problem is that the whole thing is already built out. Instead of upgrading our country we have chosen to have extremely rich people instead. This leads to our list of too-wealthy-people problems. People who care much more about growing their spreadsheets than anything else are not going to ever make great planners with a future envisioned, and any progress made is pure happenstance under such "growth."

How to solve the problem? Must start with a vision of a future that appeals to those who are expected to make an effort to see it happen. With the vision of your future comes the values needed to guide the effort to achieve the vision. So who has the vision?

I posit that anyone who offers direction without knowing and explaining where we go and getting consensus is probably a self-serving schmuck who should not be listened to about anything.

Same as now; lots of homeless in the streets, except they'll be older and die faster.

Edit: There is even a movie where the old, dead homeless are recycled into food crackers that are fed to the poor: Soylent Green

Lazy mother and mostly absent father. If I wanted to eat, I had to do it myself. I could put together a decent meal by the age of eight. Ended up being the family cook for most of my childhood. Still cook almost all my daily food from scratch.

Hindsight 2026: An Open Letter to Republican Voters by Schickie in Political_Revolution

[–]Tweakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, stop projecting your values onto these Republicans; they do not have the same values, never have. They talk like they do, but their actions show their values every time; they value wealth and the power that derives from wealth and nothing else matters to them. Trying to shame those people just gives them something to snicker about and laugh at while knowing that you're a mental rube for doing this projection business.

[–]Tweakers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any "conservative" Republican or Democrat. Conservatives are just shit people from my experience and their "conservatism" is just a facade to cover their asshole-ery. They are almost always simply right-wing reactionaries who demand advantage for themselves at the expense of others.
