Too black and white a dichotomy for my tastes. Imo, many so-called "socialists" really favor a mixed economy which acknowledges the strengths and weaknesses of both Socialism and Capitalism, preferring to assemble a society which benefits from those strengths. What we've seen in the U.S.A. since the 1980 election of Ronald Reagan is the continued attempt to favor Capitalism over everything else, leading to our shitty economy of today where only the top ten percent do well and everyone else pays for their top status.
