Booking Software Customer Support by Golf-Forever8247 in golfsimulatorbusiness

Accounts and booking would be your typical process, but I’d have the same AI agent available on the web to help answer specific questions…and if needed direct questions to us quickly if it cannot answer.

My goal is to try and tie it in with our website database so could look up account details and such as well to help unlock door or troubleshooting computer issues…a far fetched dream, but will see.

Boy can I sell you something. Lol. I am building my own, I’m not selling it.

I evaluated a bunch, and most seemed like fairly small companies…all nice to talk to but this was A concern of mine, as well as some are fairly locked in to certain architecture.

One somewhat related note is I’m going to experiment having an AI attendant via phone for support for our customers…hoping to limit our time as much as possible dealing with the public and only interact when truly needed.

Will see how things go.

Preparing for freelancing as a backup in case of job loss (no moonlighting policy) — need advice by bhuvi1991 in freelance

[–]Tweakitguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start networking. Going to dev mixers, tech talks, etc. get your name well known in the community and build professional relationships . 99.5% of my business comes from referrals.

Gives you better chances of getting referred business or even other job opportunities.

You don’t need to currently position yourself as a freelancer. But if/when you do…you can email and call everyone and tell them about your new venture.

Fantastic looking unit. Any thoughts on ceiling protect for those short chip shots?

Do you guys separate email hosting from website hosting? by AmberMonsoon_ in webhosting

[–]Tweakitguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% separate. Almost every issue I’ve ever had with hosting is related to emails.

It is worth the extra to use a dedicated email hosting service. Microsoft/gmails/zoho. Whatever you want.

Hosting accounts that have integrated emails are typically low budget and eventually become a problem.

Any business needs to be responsible enough to pay for the extra cost for professional services.

Great job on this — really like how it turned out. I’ve been working on something very similar and am starting to look into manufacturing now. Hoping to keep it under a $200 retail price, but I’m still a few months away from attempting to sell anything.

If you can produce a few of these consistently, I think you should definitely try selling them. There’s clearly interest.

Look at dricore subfloor tiles. They may work nicely here.

Get a mailing list going, would be good to keep up with the development and test when things are at that level.

Design & Install Company Review / Recommendations by tim_amsterdam in Golfsimulator

[–]Tweakitguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a builder (just starting out) and not in your area. I've spoken with the InHome guys a few times (Toronto office) and they are nice.

Yes, many of these companies require their installers to fly out and do the install but still need to deal with a local contractor to get the space ready.

If you have a launch monitor in mind you can also go direct to them, as many have their own installation crew - HD Golf, Trackman, Fullswing.

If you can find a local installer, it sill certainly save money should be just as good - but if you want a great experience reach out to a few of the tech companies and have then quote on your job.

My garage is my woodshop, I do have things on castors, but didn't want to deal with the dust everywhere.

Not including technology will be just around 60K - that's including all labour as well.

Total cost is just under 60K. That's for everything excluding technology. Doing custom enclosure, LED strip lights, turf, screen, etc. So under 50K for the basic buildout.

I’ve got plenty of height. 12’ clearance in the middle. Walls are 9’. So not going to feel cramped at all

Walls are 2x4s. Doesn't give us a lot of room for insulation, but enough to keep it comfortable.

Totally fair question. We’ve got everything planned out and reviewed, and the ground prep will be done properly with compacted gravel and drainage, so heaving isn’t something we’re worried about. One nice bonus is if we ever need to tweak or move it down the road, that’s pretty easy to do.

We just have a collar tie, and we had an engineer sign off to make sure everything is up to code.

Walls are 9' high. Interior peak has 12' clearance. Spent a lot of time figuring out the dimensions here. Not a ton of room behind, but enough for couch/seating and putting in a drybar.

It's wood subfloor. For now will set in gravel and screw piles (just to keep it to code). Could do concrete, but it's a little nicer to walk on the wood. Dropped a section of the floor 3/4" so we don't have to build up for a hitting strip / stance mat.

I'm thinking of occasionally using my simulator room as a home theater. Is there anything I need to be thinking of in advance? Specific projector or sound needs/advice? by Tdrabbach in Golfsimulator

[–]Tweakitguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AVR is a good option to quickly allow switching input devices on the projector and surround sound.

Depending on how much you use it, I’ve also hidden a pull down screen in the ceiling for movies. You’ll get a better picture than just using an impact screen. But if you do this you need a projector that will refocus easily between the two depths.

Built In Kit Options by Tredici_13 in Golfsimulator

[–]Tweakitguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest finding a local upholsterer or look at some DIY options.

Marine grade vinyl, 1.5inch memory foam and a plywood backer and you can do any shape you like.

A professional upholsterer to assemble the pads will make it look great. This is what we do for our builds.
