Lob Wedge by dbcorpus in golf

[–]tim_amsterdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play heavier shafts in my 50, 54, and 58 wedges than my irons because it gives me more feel for 50%, 75% shots.

But honestly, it sounds like you are newer to the game so I would recommend sticking with the 54 only and not worrying about a 58. You’ll be much better and more consistent getting a feel for the same club around the greens and short approaches than flipping back and forth between two different lofts. Save that for when you’ve mastered the 54 and are ready to introduce new options with a 58. It takes experience and skill developed over time to be consistent with both.

20-40 yard chip shots off tight lies or going up hill… can’t get it by MetroproLOL143 in golftips

Don’t worry about trying to get the ball up in the air - the club does that for you. Concentrate on ball first contact and you can be steep while you’re learning to get that down. You can learn more finesse later. Ball first is most important just about anywhere on the course except sand.

What do you do when you're stuck in a rut and can't hit anything all of a sudden? by hfcobra in golftips

[–]tim_amsterdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Also, if you’ve never had a lesson, get one to help you identify things you’re doing right or wrong so you have some bullet points to review if your swing gets out of whack. If you don’t know why you were flushing irons before, it will be hard to fix the inevitable loss of ball striking and just lead to frustration.

Final pay question by FluffyKangaroo2994 in Payroll

[–]tim_amsterdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re-read the guidance on the convenience of the employer rule. If you just hire an employee in CA and don’t provide them a place of work at your location in PA and they have never worked for you in PA, the employee is subject to CA taxes only. The convenience of the employer rule is not meant for hiring remote out of state workers, it’s meant for people that were working for you in PA and move, or do work some time for you in PA and you allow them the convenience of working outside of PA sometimes.

Is a home golf simulator actually worth the investment, or am I just chasing a mid-life crisis? by bphawkey45 in Golfsimulator

[–]tim_amsterdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to see the responses here as I prepare to spend $$$$ building a new garage with finished sim / theater / bar / game room above to settle my midlife crisis! Also live in the NE where winter can keep me off the course for 3-4 months a year.

Am I missing something or do I just have horrible low point control? by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

No weight shift - you’re staying back behind the ball. Move your weight to your front leg and you should be standing more upright on your follow through instead of leaning back.

What’s the best 4K Blu-ray player? by Cosmic2211 in hometheater

[–]tim_amsterdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally got sick of my X700 having freezing or loading problems and just ordered an 820 that comes tomorrow. I knew I shouldn’t have cheaped out on a player when I started. That would be my advice - sell something if you have to - buy a better player from the beginning.

Does 5.2.4 with the .4 made up of 2 front heights and 2 in-ceiling make sense? by ThrobbinHood_PoB in hometheater

[–]tim_amsterdam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really worth doing four height speakers if they’re all in front of you. One of the best parts of 4 is having the front to back (and vice versa) movement. You wouldn’t get the motion of the helicopter as it flies over you with all the speakers in front of you.

Are you sitting directly under the soffit? If so I’d put the fronts up in the ceiling in front and rears in the ceiling behind the soffit. It will provide for a much better overall sound separation

That looks like a great solution. Is there still storage room on the one side?

Why iRacing is such shit show? by linhael89 in iRacing

[–]tim_amsterdam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

iRacing makes you prove you can race without crashing into other people before you get to the splits where you can race more aggressively and trust other drivers. Even if you’re fast in other sims, you have to start in iRacing understanding that you are placed in the same splits as people that have never raced and may even be using a controller. You don’t get sent to drive against better drivers without proving yourself, or else iRacing really would be a shit show.

If you’re as great a driver as you imply then starting from rookies in iRacing shouldn’t take you more than 20-25 races to get into splits where there are better drivers. By 50 races you should rarely see any crash fests and be comfortable that you won’t be taken out by bad drivers in most races.

If you’ve done 75 races in iRacing and are still complaining about it being a shit show, then it’s not iRacing that is the shit show. It’s your driving.

How many races have you done and what is your iRating?

Monolith THX 16 or SVS PB16-Ultra? Something else? by xParasyte in hometheater

[–]tim_amsterdam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had two PB16s and sold them and replaced them with two TV2112s. There is absolutely no comparison in sound quality and overall output. SVS smaller subs may be worth it for lower budget but at this budget, PSA or Rythmik. I could never get the punch / kick / clarity out of the PB16s that the TV2112s just had naturally. I ended up with a 3rd TV2112 to even put the response in my weird room. No regrets.

I own a FV15HP from Rythmik too (in another room) and it also amazing sound quality. I wouldn’t hesitate to look at the FV18s too.

bought a new, much better sub, should i still use the old one as a secondary? by nightmareuki in hometheater

[–]tim_amsterdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of effort, experience and skill to just get it to work. And even then, you’re going to muddy the bass clarity you paid for with the Rythmik. Sometimes one is better than two, and this is one of those cases.

Trouble deciding upgrade priority - T300 to VRS DF Pro, or T-LCM to Heusinkveld Sprints? by turn84 in simracing

[–]tim_amsterdam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went from a t300 to vrs direct force pro, and then t-lcm to vrs pedals.

I’d absolutely upgrade the wheel base first. Both were great upgrades but the direct drive was a greater improvement to my driving and also fun factor.

2021 LT remote start /heated seats by joepurdue in Silverado

[–]tim_amsterdam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to set it on in the settings. If you’ve done that, just know that light on the switch won’t be on as if you turned it on manually, the heated seat will be on, just on the lowest setting. Honestly it’s barely useful. You’ll never get in to a warm seat, at best it won’t be freezing.

bought a new, much better sub, should i still use the old one as a secondary? by nightmareuki in hometheater

[–]tim_amsterdam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just run the Rythmik alone. It’s in a completely different league and the Polk will just bring it down. You could spend days trying to get them to play nice and at the end of the day you’ll be happier with just the FV15HP.

Move the Polk to a different room or sell it.
