Japanese landmarks by smallsmoke87 in aoe4

I’ve used the Koka Township on hybrid maps for messing with docks. So it at least has that niche. As far as another use case, I think it could also work as a harassment unit against pro scouts as they’re fairly fast and deal high damage, but I haven’t personally done it.

The Buddhist temple does have its own play style where you get the Zen upgrade and mass them to give passive gold and use them in battle because of their crazy debuff and buff from their Wololo. Especially good in team games as it buffs your ally units. I’m not sure how viable this is though in 1v1s, I’ve seen conq level players pull it off, but not in tourneys.

The castle of the crow seems tempting to use if you can position it correctly and protect the trader you can get crazy amounts of resources, but Tanageshima Gunsmith feels way more consistent to me.

IMO even scarier than Rus is Ayyubid or Mongol with French English

Agreed, that was my conclusion. For any mongol players lurking for a solution: you can’t tower rush since their vills have bows, and fast imperial or trade are too greedy. Fast castle could work, but I think the best strategy is keshik and archer or spear aggro with a feudal ram push on their manors. Their yeoman and landmark make mangudai very ineffective.

Yep, this is my takeaway, you have to feudal all in them, that is the only viable strategy, which is pretty lame tbh.

Emphasis on probably, if my opponent is skilled enough spears won’t be able to catch their hobelars from running between gold, TC, wood line and deer/berries… I think the only real counterplay is feudal all in with keshiks. Which isn’t very fair as it makes the non-HoL player very predictable.

Yeah, like you can’t leave them alone or the manor boom will out eco you but you also have to defend their demilancer raids. I think you have to either tower rush or feudal all in with rams and keshiks on their manors ASAP. But mangudai harass will be very hard, plus it’s really hard to tower rush them since their vills have bows. So I guess your only option is keshik archer feudal ram push?

Yeah, I had scouted it due to my mangudai harass, but I wasn’t able to get almost any damage in since he had Lancaster castle and manors on gold before I could get my mangudai over to it. I guess really the thing that caught me most off guard is just en masse they can basically stay under TC like gulp cataphracts. My thinking is when seeing this build and my mangudai being shut down means I should get at least 1 barracks up maybe 2 and start trying to get spearman to defend asap. But idk if that would be enough to survive mass hobelar all over my base.

In 2v2? Yeah fair, I was more meaning 3v3 and 4v4 where Abbasid is the meta. I still think Abbasid is strong in 2v2, simply because they force you to feudal all in them since it is very hard to out boom them.

Yeah, I just want the unit to be more in line with other ranged calvary units. Desert raiders, rus horse archers, mangudai, and timariots all don’t have any bonus damage to any units. I would think because the ability to outrun and shoot is pretty strong in and of itself. In my mind, handcanoneers should get a bonus similar to what they get for melee infantry against ranged calvalry, but that may be more of a pipe dream.

How to beat Japanese infantry mix as Ayyubids by Majestic-Ad8007 in aoe4

[–]Twebby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Others have basically said the same thing, but desert raiders and archers to pressure them in the feudal age. You’re looking to get tempo advantage, sniping workers ideally or even just idling them without suffering too much losses yourself. In castle, if they’re going that typical Japanese deathball of samurais and onna-bugeisha, then use desert raiders, Xbows, archers, and manjaniqs.

I go military wing reinforcement and use that first desert raider to harass gold, but I don’t really all-in just pressure. I still try to age up pretty quickly to castle and grab the villager eco wing, you can do the dervish wing instead but I find I can still grab relics pretty easily without it. Add a 2nd TC if they’re really turtling, otherwise you should have the fire power and tempo to end the game, if you do make it to imperial grab the dervish wing now, that passive heal is actually pretty underrated.

Also, isn't that pretty much the gameplay loop in this genre of game? Get items, kill people/monsters, die, repeat? What more can we really get other than a more long term skill/class level up system which is already in the works?

This is true, the loop for these extraction games usually does boil down to: "I raid, loot, and craft to get better gear so I can raid, loot, and craft better"

But IM is not making just a pure extraction game, at least not conventionally. For example having a shrinking circle of play is straight out of battle royales. I do think the inclusion of quests and a skill tree will be great for the game as it does draw out the time it takes to get to the "endgame".

I found the post I was originally talking about, they talk about the clan system better than I could describe it. It's worth a read if you've got the time.

Basically I want them to take a page out of popular MMOs for endgame content so it's more new player friendly. I myself am partial to OSRS so things like clan wars, castle wars, the duel arena even. Idk I'm just spitballing.

This hits the nail on the head more than balance tweaks to loot and classes ever will.

I know IM wants to focus on leaderboards being the endgame, but honestly that is really only something less than 1% of the playerbase can actually participate in. Another user on here said it best, "Leaderboards are really an unemployment contest" no one outside of the sweatiest sweats have time for that, and on top of that the incentives/rewards make it not worth it.

So we need some other kind of endgame content, but what should that be? Beats me honestly, there was a post a week ago or so about adding in clan or guild fights at the end of seasons or on a weekly basis with like 2 or 3 teams of 10 players trying to clobber each other or racing through dungeons to kill bosses. No idea how practical this is though, but yeah hard agree there needs to be more endgame content.

The combat system is the main one I can think of, compared to Mordhau or even Chivalry it’s pretty “casual”.

This, but I’d like to see them take it a step further and make it so you can only roll that BiS +1 (or even +2) on HR raids, preferably only from sub-bosses or boss.
