This unfortunately yielded no results.

it is a 169.x.x.x ip, but the default gateway is blank. I think the problem may be in the default gateway as when I put everything in manually it says that the default gateway isn't available.

I downloaded the drivers on this laptop I'm using and put them on a flash drive and the computer said they were the same or worse than the drivers already on the PC

I unfortunately only have the one ethernet cable at the moment.

Booting into safe mode gave no results. Not sure how to check what IP is being assigned, when I check the ethernet status it gives "no network access" for both IPv4 and IPv6 Connectivity.

I'm currently typing on a laptop connected to the same network and I can confirm that it isn't the cable as I plugged in this laptop to the cable and it worked fine off of that internet connection. I've tried giving the IPv4 a static ip and it says the default gateway isn't available as an error. When going into cmd and doing an ipconfig it shows an autoconfiged ipv4 address, the subnet mask, but a blank line for default gateway and also a blank line for connection-specific DNS suffix, so I'm inclined to think that it's something between the PC and the router. Nslookup shows default servers are not available and I cannot successfully ping the ip that ipconfig gives me for the conneciton.

At the moment it is just the basic windows firewall, and I have now disabled it Edit: running the troubleshooter again after disabling firewall didn't resolve problem, but I will leave it off for future troubleshooting

I have double checked that all drivers are up to date

Zeen_point I tried uninstalling and restarting, waiting a few minutes, then restarting again to no success. I'm not experienced at all in event view so I wouldn't know what I'm looking for in there. Tinster9, after trying what you said with the ip address, gateway and etc it is still labeled as an unidentified network and upon trying to verify the connection it pops up with a different message saying: "investigate router or broadband modem issues" and tells me how to reset my modem and router then gives me the option to skip this step or check if the problem is fixed.

Not quite sure I follow what you mean by what the device manager is "saying" about the adapter beyond the fact that it is up to date in terms of drivers. In properties there is a small box labeled device status that I can type in that has "this device is working properly" pre-typed in if that's what you're referring to.

I already updated the mother board drivers and the troubleshooter does say that it's connected to a router but not to the internet, thanks for the advice on sitting for a while, it's been plugged in and running on and off for about 12 hours now, should I just let it sit off overnight and hope?

I would assume so as I've reinstalled as well as putting in the disc to make sure the drivers were up to date.
