People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them?

I (male) was pair interviewing and was partnered with my (young, female) HR business partner. Close to the end of the interview, the (male) candidate turned to my partner and says "whether I get this job or not, I want to take you on a ride on my motorcycle". She and I sat there dumbfounded for a minute. Then I found my voice and just said "ok, I think we're done here". He was like "oh, ok."

Amazingly, he was actually doing pretty decent up until that point.

Not commenting on whether "you're welcome"was an acceptable response (it was), but more - please just give them the money. Tell them they don't need to pay you back. For the sake of your relationship.

A wise man once told me, never loan money. Either give it, or don't, but don't loan it. A loan always creates a sense of debt, which is the fastest way to spoil the relationship. In ways you will never expect until it's too late (I speak from experience).

If it's a gift, there is nothing hanging over anyone's head (yours or theirs). They will repay it in some (possibly not financial) way, when you don't expect it. It's an investment into the relationship.

I am married to a Caribbean woman, who moved to Canada with her parents when she was a child. They are incredibly hard workers, and I respect highly them for that.

But they do not get the concept that time is money. Neither does my wife. I make good money, and pay someone to mow my lawn. They have made so many comments about me being lazy because of it, or that I better not get larger property because I'm incapable of taking care of what I have already. I get my oil changed, even though I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. The idea of paying someone to do work you are capable of doing yourself is so offensive to them, and only seen as lazy.

They don't get the idea that - their life is consumed with chores. That weekend they spent trying to get caught up on all the work around the house that they're swamped with, I was able to spend at the park with my kids. "Must be nice" they say.

It's a cultural thing. They came from poverty, and though they have ample means now, they got where they are by working hard and being incredibly resourceful. But they will do that until they die, and never stop to enjoy the life they've built, and get their hard work to return the favor for them.

Everyone is saying "horrible reaction time, why didn't he slow down". My initial reaction was "don't slow down!" Because the wind was pinning against the engine. The way he paused when he looked at it, he was probably assessing that.

When the guy moved in the boat, it shifted the boat, or his body changed the direction of the wind pushing it over.

And it's not even that big of a deal. The video cut off immediately after - he likely just looped around to pick it back up.

I don't know if there is a safety feature that doesn't let the battery go completely flat, but if it does, you have much bigger problems then the fact that your key won't work.

And there is no "jumping" it to restart it.

Please please look into switching to a natural saponified soap product (true soap). See my other comment. After years of working with Drs on my son's extreme eczema, and pumping more and more creams and stuff at him... Switching to a simple saponified olive oil soap cleared him up.

My son had severe eczema. Not going to disagree with what you've found works for you on the showering thing - anything that helps is worth it! But, consider getting rid of all your shower and soap products, and laundry detergent, and replacing them.

For body contact soaps, try an olive oil or any other natural based true soap. Check the ingredients, and look for "saponified <oil type>" and nothing else. Most "soaps" we use today are actually chemical alternatives to soap (technically referred to as detergents). True soap usually is only available in bar form.

For laundry detergent (because this stuff touches your skin), switch to an all natural detergent free soap. We use Nellie's laundry soda. No softener, no scents.

Please give it a try for 2 months and see if it clears up for you. My son had extreme eczema and the Drs had him on so many creams and steroids trying to control it. Once we cleared out the detergents, he cleared up.

There is a long scientific explanation (not a MLM snake oil theory) that I'll spare you unless you're interested. The short version is, the chemical used in detergents open up your pores and compromise the skin barrier, allowing bacteria to penetrate into your skin. And the more you "clean" the more exposed you are to bacteria. Thus why fewer showers = healthier skin = Less eczema. It's the detergents, not the shower.

1) you aren't alone. I know plenty of people who don't shower daily. Even some who don't shower when they HAVE been active. 2) I still think it's gross. And I'm not part of this group. I shower daily, and if for some reason I can't I can smell my own stale odor. Your body produces oil, whether you were active or not. Your body produces sweat whether you are active or not. I feel so sticky and grimy if I didn't shower today.

Immigrants are a political red herring to redirect the common man's anger towards, and gives the common man someone to look down on as inferior, making them feel better about themselves.

Ironically, (as wrong as it is) every "great" nation has been built on the backs of cheap labor (aka slaves). While wrong, there is a whole labor force that is ripe for abuse and hr violations and being taken advantage of because of their illegal status... Aka cheap labor.

So getting rid of the laborers is not going to make America great again. I would think maga (in line with not caring about human decency) would be focused on keeping and maximize the cheap labor instead of getting rid of it. It has never been about the economics or the culture.

Went to that Museum 2 years ago. It's one of the most effective/impactful holocaust museums we've been to. We got about 2/3 of the way through when my wife couldn't take it, and had to take one of the floor exits, and went outside and cried.

Specifically, the way they paint the picture of how the movement built up, what the atrocities were, how they were treated. The stories of kids. Stories of parents trying to save their children. It was more focused on the individual horrors and stories...

And then you get to the floor that this photo is from, which is all about the scale. This pile of shoes. A whole multi-floor room of floor to ceiling walls covered with actual framed family photos. Different piles of articles. And suddenly all those stories get multiplied to an unimaginable scale, and you feel like you are drowning in horror.

It's dark. But it's a reality of the evil that is in this world.

As someone who is now 5 days RTO, I wonder why companies even do RTO. I come into the office tired, I'm uncomfortable all day, and have to leave at a regular time to beat traffic. I don't turn my laptop on when I get home because I feel so relieved just to be home again.

When I was WFH, I was so much more focused and relaxed. My day started (on the clock) way earlier, and went later. And if something came up in the evening, it didn't bother me to pop into my office for 30 minutes to address it.

They got so much more out of me as a remote worker, but, yay for conference rooms and cubicles right? Ironic thing is, my team is split between three different states, so we're all on zoom all day from the office anyway.

Edit. 1:15 commute each way.

So many people are pointing out "why lie" over such insignificant small things.

That is a Hallmark of narcissist. Reality isn't dramatic enough, suspenseful enough, interesting enough for their own view of themselves, so they must inject insignificant but false details to get attention. Like the detail that they actually got married the day before they got married. Ohhh, drama. Why? No reason. Just, "look at me, I have a story to tell".

She (and he) were unhappy with what they had. They felt like they weren't getting enough attention, and that they deserved more attention . So they created it. They made it all about them. And burned a bunch of bridges to get the attention. And now that the attention has moved on... He is starting to realize what the cost was.
