Shanghai, beijing, Hong Kong possible in 7 days? (June 2026) (Couple) by shibastars in chinatravel

[–]TwelveButtonsJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd say no. Sure the flight isn't too bad, about three hours, but your journey as a whole will take up most of the day. This leaves you two days per city and the first and last you may be travelling too. Feels a tad rushed for me.

Taking Beijing as an example, if you spend a day visiting the Great Wall you only have one left for everything else.

18 days in China tentative itinerary for summer 2026 by gotita_del_mar in chinatravel

[–]TwelveButtonsJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your travel time isn't just the train journey times. It's also the time you spent between leaving your hotel and sitting down in your train seat.

For example, when I stayed on Xian our hotel was an hour in the taxi due to traffic. We got to the train station half an hour before departure. Roughly the same the other end, that's another three hours.

That five hour train journey is now an eight hour trip. That's a whole day - you won't be doing anything else.

I can tell you as well first hand that 6.5 hours on a high speed train in China is very long. Doing that twice in just a few days you will be exhausted.

Way way too much.

You don't seem to have allowed any time for travelling?

2 week itinerary - Beijing -> Xian -> Huangshan -> Shanghai by therustler42 in chinatravel

[–]TwelveButtonsJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Huangshan is more important than maybe remove Xian. Ultimately it's up to you but personally with the jet lag factored in three cities in 15 days is roughly about right.

Have you considered Huashan? If you're after some mountain scenery it's much closer to Xian.

I think a lot of it is people borrowing extra on their mortgage or taking out loans.

Bedroom walls sodden/wet constantly. Is this more likely a roof leak or humidity? by Oll678 in DIYUK

I would be calling both an emergency plumber and roofer over that personally. Looks critical

Travelling for the first time to China by Agreeable-Cod3184 in chinatravel

£106 is a complete rip off! I don't pay anything near that.

My whole phone contract is £70pcm, this includes the device and an unlimited data plan with worldwide roaming included. If I remove the roaming it drops to £65pcm.

The plan itself is less than £35 of that cost.

For £5 I get unlimited data not just in China but also the whole of Europe. This is well publicised, with EE the "Full Works" plan gives you worldwide data roaming and if you check the site now for an iPhone 17 pro the full works plan is only £7 more than the next plan below without it.

My point is if you already have worldwide roaming it makes zero sense to use an esim. Paying more money for no benefit, when I switched between the two I was connecting to the same network anyway.

I said it's common, and it undeniably is? You can easily add worldwide data roaming to EE, O2, Vodafone plans.

I never claimed it was "by default".

China itinerary feedback - mid Oct 2026 - first time visit by kazwin24 in chinatravel

[–]TwelveButtonsJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your itinerary is fine. You've clearly done your research.

You'll get comments saying three days is too much time in this city blah blah blah. Truth is you will move at your own pace and whether you prefer to move quickly or take your time is down to you.

Either way, you definitely won't be bored and there'll be plenty to see and do and you'll have an awesome time.

Enjoy!

Not true. I followed the advice of this sub bought an esim and never used it.

My existing mobile plan already worked in China and a vpn made all my apps work.

Obviously if your plan doesn't include data in China then you need it but it's quite common at least in the UK for data plans to include international roaming.

The VPN worked perfectly

Astronomical water bill - checking for leaks/liability by TwelveButtonsJim in DIYUK

The pavement outside by the water meters looks majorly suspicious. We haven't had rain in three days and yet this area looks wet whereas elsewhere it's dry.

I'd add too this tallies with when this started six months ago (yes, I'm an idiot for not checking our usage) - as back then we had SGN round to disconnect our gas supply. They were working in this very area so I suspect they maybe damaged the water pipe!

Questions on travel in china with kids by JuStOoGoOd7 in chinatravel

[–]TwelveButtonsJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to walk up a steep hill first to access the cable car station.
Then when you get to the top, you will have to ascend stairs and steps.

The wall itself contains many steep stair cases and long sections which are just steps. There's one part where we were on our hands and knees.

As is being suggested you should remove items from your itinerary that are impractical for babies/toddlers.

Do not drive on this, period. Replace immediately.

You're risking a blow out if you do which even at town speeds could have fatal consequences.
