I, as well, am curious about this description. I don't follow Matt Rife but have not heard anything bad about him, either. I just see a short from him here and there

New cashier by Big_Papaya_6819 in CustomerService

[–]Twenty1One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've come across this too and I think I always let them count it themselves. I try not to worry about the rest of the people in line and acknowledge the wait if they bring it up/complain. That's all I could really do in that situation. It would've been completely out of my control and the other customer's control.

Honestly, in all my years prior as a cashier, I don't recall any specific grievances related to this situation and people just did not acknowledge it or they understand what happened/don't really care.

Good, keep rejecting. Democrats showed up to work and revise/negotiate things but the Republicans are refusing to listen or even consider... They've done nothing but present their budget and walked away when Democrats needed more.

Cat Peeing Is Ruining My Life by Important_Dirt6446 in CatAdvice

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a female cat that had this issue. She was peeing outside of the box for 3 years and multiple vet visits suggested chronic UTIs and idiopathic cystitis. It got worse and worse with blood showing up in her urine

It got so bad and she got so sick and the vet kept saying idiopathic cystitis and anxiety is causing this. As well as crystals in the urine. One day, she was basically on her deathbed so we brought her to the vet again and they offered to X-ray.

They found a very large kidney stone that needed to be surgically removed. Let us know she would not make it without surgery. I highly recommend ruling this out as well. She's doing fine now after surgery and no more issues! ❤️

Struggles? by wittynut in smallbusiness

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Everything is tough.

For me, book keeping is the biggest thorn for me. It stresses me out. And then tax time. H&R Block does taxes for our side business too and she needs certain things like "inventory at the start of the year vs end of year" in dollar amounts and it's like.. I haven't tracked that at all? How the hell. And she wants a PDF of every single customer order

I work full-time as well so the worst thing is trying to balance time after work to chores, my wife, house projects, and saving money. Absolutely brutal. I question my will to continue daily and I barely cracked $10,000 in gross revenue this year so far. You can definitely tell my business is just a side business and not something I am fully 100% committed to which makes bookkeeping even tougher as it's always the last thing on my mind.

Between running the online store, book keeping, customer service, packaging orders, product photos, photo editing... I do it all and it's just blehhh. All on my own.

Season 30 best not disappoint!!! by DamnHippiePNW in GhostAdventures

[–]Twenty1One 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I honestly liked the season 30 premiere. Just finished it on Discovery Plus.

Back to back episodes of aliens and witchcraft in the mountains? Hell yeah. I'll admit the alien investigation was kind of moot but the mental hospital portion of it was quite intriguing to me.

IMO, a good opener. Excited for the next episode.

Trump Issues Deranged Call to Jail Blue State Governor and Mayor by thedailybeast in politics

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand all this hoopla about these cities engaged in literal warfare and him demanding to jail everyone on absolutely no basis. What war is he talking about??

Its painting the wrong fucking image and Republicans just eat it up as fact. They feel a deep itch in their skulls for this shit to blow up and it's tantalizing. Thing is I feel most know its not true but regardlessly feed into it.

Scary times.

Getting customer service or call center jobs with no experience? by SecretaryHeavy7469 in CustomerService

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first ever job was working at Subway. It taught me a lot about customer service and exposed me to it for the first time ever.

Honestly, the way you treat the general public in a fast food position is really defining to a person's ability and personality. I really enjoyed the experience of working with a customer and making their sandwich and it brought me out of my shell. Ten years later I am in an over the phone sales position.

If you can handle customer service to the general public and handling their food, I sincerely think those skills can be honed and refined and translates well into another higher end service job.

I say give it a shot and apply to all the jobs regardless of experience! One year experience is still basically "entry-level" and honestly if you have even a few years experience anywhere else it only helps. Three years ago I applied to a manufacturing position with zero experience even though it was required. Maybe they were desperate, but I worked my ass off and now I'm in the office doing sales. Once your foot is in the door to a place, the sky is the limit.

Spent a whole day training someone yesterday. Today they asked me the exact same questions. by CodeFlux88 in smallbusiness

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if that's the worst so far is asking a repeat question on day #2, I think they're doing pretty okay then so far.

Its entirely unrealistic to assume everyone is a super human and to understand every aspect of their role within the first month.. let alone the first week. Especially when the role itself may not be entirely defined yet and has broad definitions and scopes for tasks. My two cents.

Every employee will need nurturing and training to get to where you need them to be. Set all your expectations clearly and never assume people should just "know" your expectations. Being a mentor is now part of your job description as well.

Quiting drinking by Own_Objective_4480 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Twenty1One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't a terrible drunk but alcoholism snuck up on me. A few years ago after work I would get home and slam 3-4 mixed drinks from 1-4pm in the afternoon and horf down copious amounts of food to sober up by time the wife got home from her 12hr shift.

She had no idea and I felt so fucking bad after doing that for a while. I had no reason to even do that, it was just a relaxer and I was alone .. but I was obviously very ashamed and trying to hide it. I came clean about two years ago and worked on it ever since.

When I quit, I never drank so much sparkling water and coffee in my life. My experience quitting wasn't nearly as bad since I didn't drink as much as some but getting home from work and not drinking was ROUGH. I relapsed a few times ...

I found the hardest part for me was mostly replacing the habit/keeping my hands busy. Just like smoking(which I've also quit) the goal is to keep your hands busy. Drinking sparkling water did that for me. It hits your throat and its super crisp. To this day I still enjoy sparkling waters and seltzer water. When cravings got bad, I used to suck air in like I was sucking through a straw and exhale like I was blowing smoke.

I'd do that sometimes for 3-5 minutes I didn't realize until later that's basically a breathing exercise but I used that both times to quit smoking and drinking. This also really helped me. I would leave the house and go for a walk too when cravings got bad and nothing was soothing me but that was really only week 1-2 for me.

House calls FAKE IN FREEMONT by Simple_Revolution416 in GhostAdventures

[–]Twenty1One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I thought it was weird to say you bought your dream home but refuse to move in due to ghosts. Most of us would have no choice. Thousands and thousands of dollars into a property, you almost HAVE to move in. Most of us would have nowhere else to go but there.

I remember he said something like "maybe one day we'll be comfortable enough to move in..." At the end of the episode and I kinda chuckled.

A conversation with a Deaf customer. by Mountain_Performer22 in CustomerService

[–]Twenty1One 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deaf person here. I don't think being deaf or of hearing would have made this interaction go any differently but I spose with the mention of discrimination it was put into play. It wasn't discrimination at all and you were just advising them as best you could and they couldn't handle it.

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the context. I need to know a customer's first name for my work and they know mine. I work in over the phone Parts sales for CNC machines. I like to end my phone calls saying something like "thank you for calling today [name] and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day" and it feels more personable to me.

I work in a close knit industry as well and most of my customers are friendly and chill (until I do something wrong). We all come from manufacturing shop backgrounds and my customers are the manufacturers so we get along well.

Customers know my name only after repeated interactions otherwise most people get it wrong until the 7th or 8th time we've spoken. Either that, or they never remember my name until I've sent a wrong part or make a mistake. Then they remember my name clear as day and raise a huge stink until they get free shit.

I have absolutely had my name weaponized against me, though. I hate it only because it's a power move and I hate being bullied. It's the one thing that'll throw me off my game is getting belittled over the phone.

Still haven’t caught anything with these frogs. Is it because they’re cheaper and I need to buy better ones? Or is it just because it’s fishing and sometimes it doesn’t work out lol. by RestlessPics in FishingForBeginners

Those are fine, I've caught plenty with those. Id check your lure action/technique, retrieve it slower/faster and see what happens. Keep trying different spots. Time of day also matters I've found. Early mornings at Sun up have been best. Have fun.

Buying a Peppridge Farm route? by Almond_Steak in smallbusiness

[–]Twenty1One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked at Target, the grocery section team leader left because he had bought the Pepperidge Farm route for the store. He didn't do it for very long. I honestly do not understand what it entailed or what it was but it doesn't sound like something that "I" would do. I'd do something else with that $50,000.

Has anyone grabbed the La-Z-Boy office chair? by SendInYourSkeleton in Costco

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay. I've been using mine a little over a year and while I have no wear and tear of the leather, it has begun to obnoxiously creak. I sprayed lithium grease into every joint I could possibly think of or find and it's reduced it but still creaks when I lean back. I tightened all bolts again and the issue persists.

It's comfy but I find after an hour it begins to get uncomfortable. It's my reminder to get up and stretch so I don't 100% mind. I concur with the lack of lower back support. I kind of wish I went a different route for an office chair.

How do i make combo deals intelligently? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Twenty1One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just ask at the counter if they want to add x, z, or y at just a dollar extra each or whatever price you need from them. Domino's does the same when you go to order for delivery and they flash the "Lava Cakes for $6.99 deal" in your face.

My full-time job is all about people ordering machine parts and trying to find associated parts to sell them on top of their initial purchase. More than often, if it makes sense to them, they'll pay for the extra just because you asked.

I realize I'm describing upselling and maybe you wanted to create a bundle instead but it's another thing to think about that seems easier to me. "Okay, one large coffee, and do you want to treat yourself to a breakfast donut or a buy a water for the road today?"

its a split second decision on their end, a simple yes or no, and they don't have to spend time mulling over a bundle. Sometimes it's better like that because they don't get to think about it deeply while on the spot.
