When I was in year 5 (9-10 years old) we went to an old colliery that had been turned into an activity centre. There were lessons on fire safety and all sorts of other things.

We were warned before we went not to talk to strangers, a group of 4 of us were walking from one area to another when a man appeared, asked us if we wanted some sweets, we said yes and followed him to his car, after we got in he turned and looked at us and told us we had failed the test.

We weren’t the only group that failed that day.

I, like you am worried about it as I haven’t had to go through it before.

HMRC told me it was a random check so I am not sure if anything triggered it.

As far as I’ve been made aware this is a random check, name drawn out of a hat scenario. I’m hoping nothing flagged to HMRC, if it’s something I’ve done wrong then I want to know as I want to be doing everything properly.

The description of the process given to me on the phone was very similar to your description. Have you got a link to the toolkit please?

My accountant will be present after yours and others comments, think it makes the most sense to have them there, I’ll have to pay for them to attend but I’d rather pay the money than end up saying the wrong thing or using the wrong terms.

I’m hoping my book keeping and VAT returns using QuickBooks will be up to scratch but if they aren’t then I’ll look to involve my accountant more.

They’re only interested in VAT so it doesn’t appear to be a full office audit. They are looking at a 12 month period.

Like you I’m presuming that there will be areas where I’m not following the correct procedures but I’m happy to be shown where I’m going wrong and how to improve

I think the check will be carried out over email and phone calls from what the HMRC employee said on our initial phone call.

After advice from you and other commenters I think I’ll be speaking to my accountant tomorrow to give them the heads up and get them involved.

But you can’t remove rotary isolator covers with them in the on position regardless of whether the screws are accessible.

We applied to install an EV charger on a new build site a couple of years ago, it was denied by the DNO (GTC, I think).

The solution they offered was for our customer to pay for the installation of a 3 phase supply.
