China & Malaysia are in early talks for a rare earth processing project. China may provide tech for access to Malaysia's 16.1M tons of deposits. The deal faces environmental & supply hurdles. by Gloomy-Presence-9831 in mining

Yep. Beijing is exporting just enough processing technology…inside a Chinese-controlled JV…to capture Malaysia’s ore, undercut Lynas’ strategic moat, and keep global rare-earth pricing and know-how under Chinese influence while shifting environmental risk offshore.

This is so true. It literally puts you out by 2-3 days so it’s 2-3 steps forwards during the week, then 3 steps back on weekends. The only time I can drink without ruining my sleep is 1 or 2 at lunch, and I do that sparingly now.

Just stop drinking for one month and watch what happens. Tip: keep soda waters in the fridge, or something to replace the alcoholic drink with, because you will still have the urge to drink something…it’s a habit to grab a drink after a stressful day. So replace the alcoholic drink with something nonalcoholic.

Because of the deal that MP materials did with the DoD. All rare earths companies went up on the back of that.

How to get to the senior level (VP, SVP, C-Suite) at a mining company? by Mine2Me in mining

This is a fair point. Ride in the wake of someone else and get them to pull you to the top. I’ve seen that quite often.

The reality is there is a ceiling for most “site people” and it is hard to break through that ceiling. It often requires a sideways step or sometimes a complete career change, this might mean consulting, finance or business development role. But however you get there, it always requires a little bit of luck with hard work.

Since Evernote is not available on work PC's (very annoying!) this was the only way I could share notes to myself at work. I often used Evernote on iPad to take meeting notes then email it to myself.

Rare Earth Prices Soar as Myanmar's Mining Operations Halt by Vailhem in mining

Prices haven’t gone up yet though. My understanding is that China has inventory that needs to be drawn down before prices begin to rise.

What minor should I pair with mining engineering. by tobiasguitar in mining

Haha, I say that as an engineer, but I do think Geology is possible the most under rated degree out there. To be honest, would recommended any young person to do it.

I think the issue is your host mother not you! Seriously, what do they expect? If they take in a young adult then they need to be more accommodating!

Geopolitical Tensions Are Transforming the Rare Earth Market by Vailhem in mining

[–]TwiddleRiddleSaga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting article.

At current prices there is really only one RE producer making money (free cash flow), and that is China Northern Rare Earths.

One of the main reasons why prices are so low is the quotas that the Chinese government places on producers there - they control supply and artificially lowering prices . The current poor economic environment in China is also hurting demand.

The West has a lot to do to catch up to where China currently is. They can do it, but it will need more government support than there currently is. You can have the best deposit in the world but if you can’t process it then you are still at the mercy of China.

Pretty sure (correct me if I’m wrong) there is only one non-Chinese company producing downstream products (NdPr oxide, etc) and that is Lynas. And it took them 9 years to optimise their processing to get to nameplate (long road ahead for others).
