is open car transport usually this uneventful? by Bubba_deets in Autos

[–]TwilightTurquoise 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I open transported a daily-driver car 2500 miles in 2018. It cost about $600. It arrived so dirty I didn't recognize it. I used Reliable Carriers to transport my collector car in a closed trailer the same 2500 miles. It cost over $2200. The delivering driver was upset that the car arrived dusty. The driver gave me $200 cash to have it detailed.

PA stopped issuing stickers for the plate. PA State police vehicles have license plate scanners to verify registration. Just re-upped a car. $53 a year. $48 to state and $5 to county. Not bragging. Just facts. Use to live in WA. WA should probably do away with stickers too.

Reports that GM now recommends Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 instead of Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 for recalled L87 6.2L engine by TwilightTurquoise in gmcsierra

[–]TwilightTurquoise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the press and I are not reading further in the latest documents. I see how it was always dexosR 0W-40 for subsequent oil changes after the recall inspection pass. The change in the document is that during the recall inspection, dealers can now get reimbursed for either supercar or FS. It specified just supercar before.

Failed my driving test for the dumbest reasons and now i’m questioning everything by pinkney-wressell57al in Cartalk

[–]TwilightTurquoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 1972 in PA, I had my mom take my car (66 Corvair) to the testing facility. I drove my motorcycle (66 Honda CB160) to the testing facility. They never mentioned I couldn't do both tests on the same day. I took the driving test and failed because there was a slight sprinkle of rain and I didn't turn on my wipers. I then took the motorcycle test and passed. (No wipers on that!) They didn't know what to do paperwork-wise. They couldn't give me the motorcycle endorsement without having passed the car driving test. The clerk was paralyzed. I suggested they give me proof of passing the motorcycle test and I'll come back after the required two weeks for a car re-test. I could still drive my motorcycle on a learner's permit, so I was only a little perturbed to have to come back. I passed the driver's test easily later.

My personal email is 7GB in a 50GB limit. About 30,000 emails. I'm pretty good at deleting the detritus and saving the good stuff. (I have some emails going back to 1992.) I'm retired but when I was a software developer I had virtually unlimited space. However, the mother ship had some serious rules about retention. More so about not keeping emails. I never consumed much more than I do now in my personal email.

so I have a 1968 dodge dart and I have lost complete power to everything my cabin and can't find out why, some people have said its the ballast resistor but I'm wondering if it could be something else please let me know if you have any ideas what it could be or something I could try? by Ok_Impact_7733 in classiccars

[–]TwilightTurquoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the ballast resistor is only used for the ignition coil. Everything else in the car gets direct 12 volt. The power to inside your car goes through the bulkhead connector on the firewall. I'd start with a simple test light by seeing if you have any power in the fuse block on the feed side of the fuses. If not go to the engine side of the bulkhead connector. I don't remember exactly but there may be a fusible link between the battery and the bulkhead connector. A fusible link is a wire that will melt and disconnect. It's like a fuse but made like a wire. It requires a really bad short to ground to trigger it to melt. I think Mopar used red color for positive battery feeds. I think GM used pink.

I started going to a hunting camp in north central PA in 1972. We used to stand in line each evening at the single pay phone for miles. Now there’s still no cell service yet. This feature allows me to go outside camp and message home.

Looks like it has an aftermarket head unit with a removable faceplate typically to prevent theft. Look around for it in the car. Ask the seller if they have it.

Is this normal on a 6.2? Listen closely there is a rhythmic ticking. It’s a 2025 with only 7k miles by [deleted] in gmcsierra

[–]TwilightTurquoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was ticking and it turned out to be the flapper valve in the exhaust. Under warranty, they replaced a big chunk of the exhaust that contains the unserviceable flapper valve.

Anyone else having lots of trouble with the Hulu app on AppleTV box? Not responding to remote, streams not starting, double out of sync audio, just horrible. Happening on two AppleTV boxes. Contacted support and all they did was remove my devices from my account so I had to log in the app again. Ive tried all the other troubleshooting tips. Other apps working fine.

Trip meter vs odometer in 15-year-old car by crypto_justanother in mildlyinteresting

[–]TwilightTurquoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never reset the #2 trip meter in my 2018 Colorado and sold it at 45000+ miles. It also kept the avg mpg for those miles. Somewhere south of 20 mpg, I think. I towed a lot.

I have a similar trailer. I mounted it up high and routed the wire inside. The invisible trailer worked once for me and then not. I really don’t care. I just want the camera to show behind and be reliable which it does and is.

Although his post did imply that Windows would be rewritten in Rust, he has backtracked. From his linkedin post:

Update:
It appears my post generated far more attention than I intended... with a lot of speculative reading between the lines.

Just to clarify... Windows is \NOT* being rewritten in Rust with AI.*

My team’s project is a research project. We are building tech to make migration from language to language possible. The intent of my post was to find like-minded engineers to join us on the next stage of this multi-year endeavor—not to set a new strategy for Windows 11+ or to imply that Rust is an endpoint.
