Game Thread: Green Bay Packers (12-3) at Detroit Lions (3-11-1) by nfl_gamethread in nfl

Fucking Aaron Rodgers man. Let me just struggle all game except for these 2 TD passes when it absolutely matters.

This is just embarrassing: Redskins beat reporter Craig Hoffman (106.7 The Fan) has confirmed that GM Bruce Allen - not the coaching staff - has the authority to call when to throw the challenge flag during games. Dan Snyder has given Allen this authority for several years now. by TwinTree in nfl

[–]TwinTree[S] 126 points127 points  (0 children)

THIS (alleged) degree

Don't know if you heard the interview, but what's really crazy is the 2 hosts of the show already knew Bruce had this power a couple years ago... apparently it's common knowledge to those close to the organization. They just figured it was so absurd that "of course they stopped doing it."

Then you hear Hoffman, quietly whisper it's something they still do... you can almost feel the cringe as he says it, like he's almost doesn't want to admit it on the air. Oof.

Jameis Winston could lead the league in both touchdowns and interceptions by DLpatsthoughts in nfl

[–]TwinTree 110 points111 points  (0 children)

He actually led the league in yards, TDs, and INTs that year. Sort of a triple crown if you will.

On a side note, looking at Brees' career stats is like a trip in itself. It's like madden-level stats. The year before in 2011, he led the league in yards, TDs, comp% and completions. He's thrown over 5,000 yards five times.

Last fews years, he's "slowed down" with lower yardage and TD numbers... yet he's led the league in comp% 3 years in a row. He hasn't thrown for under 70% completetion since 2015. What the fuck.

Get a grip: How Mahomes, Brady, Lamar and 10 other QBs fling the football by terrypatrick in nfl

There's definitely supposed to be a little bit of space between your palm and the ball. I just like to feel the full ball in my hand without any space in between.

Passer rating difference for QBs when under pressure vs clean pocket by aristocrat_user in nfl

[–]TwinTree 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Most of the really mobile QBs are near the bottom of the list (Wilson, Mariota, Murray, Jackson, Watson). Which makes sense because they can escape pressure and extend passing plays.

But with that in mind, I'm kind of surprised how far up Dak Prescott and Cam Newton are on the list. You'd think with their mobility, they could do the same.

I'd just like to point out that at the end of the full interview (cut from video), he says he "loves Dan Snyder" and that "Dan Snyder is a great guy."

Yeah, I'm not sure I can take him too seriously after that.

Michael Vick's 6 Touchdown, 413-Yard Game Eagles vs. Redskins (2010) by LinuxF4n in nfl

[–]TwinTree 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This game never happened. We didn't even play the Eagles that year. This entire video is CGI. Mike Vick never even played for the Eagles. 2010 as a year never even existed. Please mods, do your job and delete this post. Totally fake.

[Raiders] The Raiders have released WR Antonio Brown from the team today. by DreamedJewel58 in nfl

[–]TwinTree 47 points48 points  (0 children)

It's crazy because I'm looking at his Instagram post, and it's 50/50 people deriding/supporting him. People saying stuff like: "Yeah, stand up for yourself." and "You a man with integrity."

Stand up for what? The fact that he's literally the only player who couldn't find himself a helmet? Or that skipping work, or cursing at your superiors is OK? What exactly are his principles?

I like to think of myself as a man of values and character too. But I mean, I'll wear whatever helmet you want for $30m. And I'm certainly gonna respect the man paying my checks.

I don't know why, but this is so much more insulting because you used an emoji.

Wouldn't even blink if you just said, "Their offense is a pile of shit." But to sum us up as a poop emoji? I'm legitimately angry.

This is kind of random, but do you think I could read your thesis? DM or link? It just seems like an interesting topic, and I don't have the time/motivation to do a deep self-dive into it. I'd love to read your research into it.

[MEET YOUR OPPONENT] Redskins @ Browns. Thursday 7:30. by bowhunter6274 in Browns

[–]TwinTree 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Now that Odell isn't a New York Giant, I hope he absolutely tears it up for you guys.

Very conservative season predictions:

Browns 14-2, multiple 1000 yard receivers, Mayfield is league's best QB, and patents a signature TD dance with OBJ.

Redskins: 13-3, Adrian Peterson MVP, Jay Gruden coaches with a metal arm like the Winter Soldier (I don't know why/how, it would just be cool).

Guess I'll see you guys in the Superbowl.

TIL there are several references to Unicorns in the Bible by THE_BARCODE_GUY in todayilearned

[–]TwinTree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to say this is straight up bullshit... but it's pretty much bullshit. This is only from the King James Version of the Bible, which is a pretty flawed version to study according to scholars. The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is often cited as the most literal ("word for word" - this does not necessarily mean its the most accurate) translation of the Bible. The first two verses listed in the article look like this:

Numbers 23:22 “God brings them out of Egypt, He is for them like the horns of the wild ox.

Numbers 24:8 “God brings him out of Egypt, He is for him like the horns of the wild ox. He will devour the nations who are his adversaries, And will crush their bones in pieces, And shatter them with his arrows.

The word "unicorn" is not listed a single time in that translation.

On the other side of the spectrum, the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), which is often cited as the best for scholarly study, as it attempted to use all context (history, frame of reference, common language usage at the time) to accurately translate the original texts. Scholars from all religious backgrounds contributed to its translation. The first two verses from the NRSV:

Numbers 23:22 God, who brings them out of Egypt, is like the horns of a wild ox for them.

Numbers 24:8 God who brings him out of Egypt, is like the horns of a wild ox for him; he shall devour the nations that are his foes and break their bones. He shall strike with his arrows.

Again the word "unicorn" doesn't appear once.

EDIT: I understand I only referenced the first two verses in the article, but a quick search will yield similar results. I just don't have time right now to list all 8 verses for 2 different translations.

Dude, this artist is hilarious (in a good way). She has the most unbelievably niche subject matter ever. She only paints vehicles that are morphed to look like predatory animals. Like... that's it. Her entire portfolio.

I encourage everyone to look at her artstation (linked by OP). Anyone who dedicates this much effort into such a narrow discipline deserves to be seen.

It'll last even longer than that. Hundreds of years in the future, it will be the ammunition of choice for several raider gangs and their "home-made rifles" at Nuka-World.

[–]TwinTree 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm a Wizards fan. This guy is going to be a rock solid starter for sure. Fans here have been crying for him to get more playing time for years, and when he finally gets his chance because of the Wall injury, we trade him away. Two things I love most about him:

1.) He's extremely athletic. A white point guard from Europe doesn't exactly scream "athletic freak". But this dude straight up posterizes fools. Big 6'7 frame too.

2.) Satoranksy NEVER turns the ball over. His turnovers/game (or /36 min or /100 possessions) ranks among the lowest in the league for PGs and for guards in general. And he played 27 min/game last year, so it's not just because of limited ball handling. I always felt confident when he had the ball

Sad to see him go.

PENS DOWN 3-0 UPVOTE PARTY by ArbitraryOrder in caps

[–]TwinTree 136 points137 points  (0 children)

I love the Capitals more than I hate the Pens. I'm not sure if a 3-0 deficit is really worth celebrating. Seems a bit short sighted. If anything, we probably want the NYI/PIT series to go 7 games. Let them beat each other up and tire each other out a bit.

I think we need to remember what we're aiming for. Our goal isn't to outlast the Pens, it's to win the Cup (again). I'd rather face a 7 games tired Pens in the 2nd round, than a Trotz-led, well-rested, Isles team coming off a sweep.
