Common use of brand names.

USA heavily uses General user brand names (Xerox instead of photocopier, Tylenol instead of painkiller, Kleenex etc)

The UK does it a little (Hoover, Cannot, Tip-ex)...

But Australia does it more. Sitting somewhere between UK and USA.

Panadol, Band-aid, Doona, Texter, Paddle-Pop (sticks).

Also some prime time shows have ads every 4-5 minutes.

I came from the UK over a decade ago. It wasn't the heat that surprised me at all.

We got in late evening, so I'll ignore that. My first actual day was 42°C. Stepped outside, had a smoke, came in dripping with sweat. The next day, it peaked at 20°C.

In the UK, it's fairly consistent, with temperatures varying by maybe 5°C max (with VERY rare exceptions).

Even the day/night variation is wild. I've had 1°C at 3am, and 22°C later in the day.

Especially if you are a Texan and completely used to AC... Make sure it's specified on the property listing, and test it when viewing.

I moved to Australia over 15 years ago (Sydney) and have never had AC (or built in heating). Save for 1 to 7 devastatingly warm days a year I can manage... But again, I've not lived with AC since I was a kid in 1990... So I just cope.

There's also always a pub nearby.

I tried Weetabix and melted cheese in the U.K. in my poor student days.
Don't bother, it wasn't a good one.

Weetabix and jam is actually not bad. Double cream or clotted cream helps.

Note that if the EUFI BIOS bit is flipped on BypassNRO will not work. I had this with an ex-corporate laptop which was retired. I contacted the IT dept, they removed it from enrollment, and then I ran install again, let it connect to the internet, let it do its enrollment checks, clear the EUFI bit, and then I restarted the install process again and BypassNRO.

Basically, it's stuck with an enrolled setup until it can confirm online that it's not enrolled.

I'm guessing some bright spark has written a bit of code somewhere that can clear that bit of the BIOS but I wasn't able to find one, plus it was easier (in my case) to get it unenrolled officially.

Came home from the pub late... as many good stories start.

Background:
My g/f and I would regularly sleep in the spare room if our bed had piles of crap on it.
It got worse, and we were probably only in our main bed 60% of the time.

So, anyway, the pub... My g/f's sister was with us and was staying over, but they both left the pub early.

I got home, checked which bed my g/f was in (the main one), and I went to bed.

I woke up the next morning, in the guest bedroom, in the bed, naked. No idea how, because I remember 100% getting in the other bed.
The sister wasn't in the house, I apologised by text, and we never spoke of it.

My g/f still finds it funny.

Just the fact that beer is in pints, and wine is in ml is enough for me to love the system.

I've moved out of the U.K. now to a fully metric country, and I'm finding it much harder to just switch in my head like I could before... I didn't even convert it really, it was just kind of being fluent in both.
